My cat keeps moving kittens, what should I feed 1-month-olds?

Kittens can be offered semi solid food (kitten mousse or softened kitten kibble) from 14days of age and will wean gradually then once food is available, most kittens will control their own food intake depending on how much milk is available from mother, feeding guidelines are appropriate once fully weaned and should be on the bag (they vary by brand, age and weight of kitten). Be sure to deworm her also as worms are passed through the mothers milk to kittens.

If the kitten is 1-2 months old than she should be able to eat some regular cat food, especially if you get wet food and add some water to it. Human baby formula is not ideal but if you can't get kitten milk replacer and she is not eating solid food than you could give her some. It would be best to use a kitten formula or just regular cat food. Most kittens than are 2 months old are ready to be weaned from their mothers.

Because she wants to! Often we set up what we think is the perfect environment for a nursing mother, but she may have other plans. She thinks it is safer or better to have the kittens in a different area. The kittens are also getting older, so they need to start exploring different areas. She may also be preparing them to start weaning, which usually occurs at 5-6 weeks of age.

It's very possible this momma cat is just really good at cleaning up after her kittens. At a month of age, she should start taking them to the litter box and teaching them how to use it as well, so you may start to see an increase in waste there instead. Watching the momma cat to see if she is eating/cleaning up the waste can help alert you to if this is the case. If any of the kittens seem unwell, constipated, or don't seem to be urinating/defecating properly, scheduling a vet check to rule out any issues is always best.

You can feed them canned kitten food mixed with an appropriate kitten milk replacer, such as KMR. Mix them to make a gruel or slurry. Have them examined by your veterinarian to diagnose and treat any pre-existing conditions and to deworm them. The deworming should be repeated every weeks for 3 treatments. Once they are about 8 weeks old, you can discuss vaccines or begin to rehome them.

If the kitten is 4-6 weeks it should be fed solid food, not milk. You should try kitten wet food, warm it up before offering to the kitten. If kitten allows, you can hand-feed or even syringe feed. Please, remember that kittens at that age should be fed very small amounts every 2-3 hrs.

If the kitten is this old you can introduce softened kitten food or canned kitten food and it will be ok away from mom. Make sure you schedule a vet visit to get her dewormed and checked out. She needs her first vaccines at 8 weeks.
