Is it normal for my cat's eyes to close after conjunctivitis ointment?

The cloudiness is probably due to the infection, the eye ointment should be treating it. if it seems to be getting worse in the next couple days you should bring her back to the vet to get it checked.

Poor Daisy! It can take the eye a little time to respond to the ointment, and sometimes it will get worse before better. I would apply the ointment 3 times a day if it is this bad. If the eye does not start to settle, or you notice cloudiness or redness on the eyeball itself, I would take her back to the vet as sometimes when the eye is sore they can scratch it and cause an ulcer on the eye itself, this can be serious.

This is likely conjunctivitis, which is commonly seen with upper respiratory infections. The clavamox will help to keep this from getting too bad, but sometimes prescription eye ointment is needed. Wiping away the discharge with a warm cloth is good to do a few times a day. Considering the one eye is completely closed, it may be difficult for all the discharge to drain, so I recommend having it checked by the vet sometime in the next day or two. This sounds like your pet has an eye infection and it's possible that it initially got better because the medicaiton was working, but was just stopped too soon, is the infection came back. We normally treat eye infections for at least 7-10 days and sometimes longer depending on the depth of corneal damage. I would recommend extending the course of treatment and definitely no topical steroids should be used or this will only make it worse. So no dexamethasine ingredient in the eye medication or Prednisone. You should be giving something like Tobramycin, Terramycin or Neo/Poly/Bacitracin . I hope this helps!

That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. Antibiotics (eye drops) for human beings can be used (chloramphenicol 0,5 % three times daily for a week). If no improvement are seen a check up would be required. Poor guy. I can certainly appreciate a lot of swelling of his conjunctiva and discharge from that left eye. This is typically caused by a viral infection. Since there is improvement with the swelling, I would continue the course of treatment. You should also consider adding in an over the counter antiviral supplement called Lysine powder, which is found at most pet stores. This can help boost up Mischiefs immune system to fight the infection. Hopefully this fully resolved by the end of his treatment course. Cats often squint their eyes, especially if they are getting sleepy and about to nap. Now if you notice any redness of the white part of her eye, eye discharge (usually yellow green) or puffiness of her eyes, then I would get concerned about conjunctivitis and then eye drops would have to be prescribed by your vet.
