My cat's eye is cloudy from URI eye ointment. Is this normal?

Unfortunately, the picture is not clear enough for me to fully see the lesion. However, a diagnosis would require a full ophthalmic exam by a vet, so we would only be able to give educated guesses anyways. Cats with feline herpes virus at a young age can get severe ulcers in the cornea (the outside layer of the eye ball). This, or swelling within the cornea are the common causes of the cloudy appearance. With severe ulcerations, the cornea does not heal perfectly and can have a permanent scar - this could definitely be a reason for the cloudy spot you are describing. However, I would have expected one of the previous vets to have diagnosed this already, so it may be something else. Considering you have been to many veterinarians already and have not received an adequate answer, or potential treatment options (corneal scars can be remedied with minor surgery), I recommend seeking a referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist. They will be able to definitively diagnose the condition and will be the best professional to offer treatment. You can ask your vet about this option and I'm sure they will ensure you get the necessary information and referral. I hope that helps and all is well with Cinder.

It depends on what the cause is of the cloudiness is. I would be concerned about glacoma, which is usually treated with eye drops (and sometimes surgery). I'm not sure what they might be treating with injections, but every doctor is different. I'd recommend asking that disease they are treat for, if there are other possible causes (and how to test for those/rule those out) and how long treatment should take and when you need to change course. The cloudy ares are concerning. The vet needs to examine the eyes with an ophthalmoscope.We can't really tell much from the photo. I can tell you it is not normal and may be an immune mediated response. It could also be uveitis from a virus. I don't want to second guess your vet as I was not there to examine him but the treatment does not sound appropriate for a stomach virus and if those are the actual doses you are giving they sound very high.

It may take 7-10 days for the condition to resolve. As long as he is still eating, breathing normal, and has normal energy then continue the medications as directed and monitor his condition. If he has a viral infection then it will need to just run it's course as the antibiotics will only treat a bacterial infection. If he stops eating, becomes lethargic, or has any breathing issues then he should be rechecked by a vet.

A dark colored discharge is completely normal and is just what accumulates near the corner of the eye. It consists of the dried discharge left from the tear film that gets deposited onto the eye and flows across the eye. Unless you notice redness and a green or yellowish discharge I wouldn't worry. A clear discharge with a lot of squinting and redness would be something to have your vet evaluate right away. Sounds like this is completely normal and is found in both normal cats and dogs. Good job treating the conjunctivitis, sounds like it has resolved.

if you are noticing the eyes are looking worse, I recommend to call the vet asap. It could be an allergic reaction but it could also be a worsening of the viral infection (and the meds have not had enough time to take effect yet).
