My cat's eye is swollen and has pus after a bite. Is it damaged?

Poor Tiger! It sounds like he may have a corneal ulcer or very severe conjunctivitis. Eye conditions can be very painful and can quickly progress to emergencies, so Tiger should be seen by a vet right away, as an ulcer is unlikely to heal on its own. In the meantime, you can get Tiger an E-collar or "cone" to prevent him from scratching the eye and causing further trauma. I hope this helps and that all is well with Tiger!

Yes, it does look like she suffered some trauma to that eye. From the photo, it looks like the eye probably cannot be saved. Kitty should see a veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam. My worry is that the bite wound is now a closed abscess and needs to be lanced so it can drain. Antibiotics have a hard time penetrating a puss filled pocket. I would not recommend waiting a week. This is a medical emergency, and Sebastian needs to see a vet now. His eye would have been damaged from the bite, and it sounds like there is now an infection if you are seeing pus. This will also be extremely painful for him, and there are no OTC pain medications you can give. Many human ones are toxic to cats, and are fatal if given. If you leave this untreated, it can lead to permanent vision loss. Please take him into a vet immediately, there is nothing you can do for him at home.

Your poor kitty! That looks very painful. Your kitty needs to see a vet soon for this problem. Cat scratches to the eye can be very serious. All that is visible in the photo appears to be inflammed conjunctival tissue. This may be the primary problem or more likely something is going with the eye or structures associated with the eye/orbit. It appears that your kitty has a so-called cat bite abscess. You should take her temperature and if she has a temperature of over 103F she will need to be seen by your vet and the abscess needs to be drained properly. She will also need antibiotics, If she does not have a fever, the abscess is draining nicely (you can put gentle pressure on it and remove the discharge with a tissue) and does not refill, then it might heal by itself. However since this abscess is close to the eye I strongly recommend you taking Calypso to your vet tomorrow for an exam and treatment.

Hello. While the swelling is quite noticeable, he does not appear to be in any pain or discomfort. There is no discharge or tearing, & the eye looks very healthy. The problem, however, is I can not tell from a picture if this is just benign swelling from a possible insect sting, or if Bootz got into an argument with another cat & you have an abscess brewing. If it is just a sting, the swelling should be better tomorrow. If not, and the area is worse, firmer & warmer in the morning, then I would think this is a bite wound & Bootz may need antibiotics.
