My cat's eye patch is worse after vet visit. What should I do?

Pet's info: Cat | Bengal | Female | spayed | 11.7 lbs

my cat has this patch over her right eye that is getting bigger that looks to be inflamed, no hair, and bumpy that bleeds real easy. she was taken to a vet two days ago and is on antibotics, but looks and is still worse. I am also using a medicated wipe to help, but gets to bleeding after application.

Wow. That looks very sore! I am sorry that Skeeter is having this issue.

The appearance of this lesion is very concerning. Many skin conditions can look the same visually so I cannot say exactly what is going on but my first thoughts are that this is either a tumor (cancer) or an eosinophilic plaque. It could also be caused by skin parasites (like mites). Did your vet do any testing on that lesion?

I am afraid some more work up is going to be necessary to figure out what is going on and how to treat it. I highly doubt that some antibiotics alone will clear this up. It is not a wound, something else is definitely happening.

If she is scratching or rubbing it you need to an E-collar on her (cone) or it will never heal.

I suggest you get Skeeter back to your vet and allow them to do some testing on this. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

    Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. This could be an infected sore or something malignant. I wou ld recommend having a vet examine this to know for sure as it is difficult to say from the pictures. This may need a course of topical and oral antibiotics which your vet can prescribe. If you are unable to get to a vet right awsy, you can try using zymox topical ointment and see if this helps. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.     It looks like it could be caused by a self inflected injury but the itch could be caused by an underlying mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.
    Antiinflammatory and antibiotics drops for the eyes can be applied on that little spot of skin as well.
    A buster collar could avoid further scratching and be quite useful.

My cat won't let his scab heal. How do I stop him from licking it?
Hello, my name is Dr. Elizabeth and I am happy to help. I hate to hear this lesion on Patch is not healing. I think the main thing to address is the licking. The first thing you need to do is stop the licking (since this can make it worse). Patches should wear an elizabethan collar at all times. Remember that the collar must come out past her nose in order to be effective. Next, wear gloves to handle the lesion and be sure to wash your hands afterwards. Get pet wipes that contain Chlorhexidine. Cleanse the area twice a day. This will help to control the number of topical pathogens as well as remove oil and dead skin cells. Lastly, after the area is completely dry, apply a topical antibiotic twice a day. Just a dab will do and rub it in well. Neosporin is fine to use. Again, wear gloves or apply with a q-tip. Patches needs to be indoors at all times. Cats can't wear elizabethan collars outside as they are a choking hazard if they were to get hung up. She can only wear the collar if she is in a safe environment. If the spot is not much better in 1 week, if it gets worse at any point or if the lesion is not completely healed within 2 weeks, Patches needs to be examined by the veterinarian. My cat has a small, non-healing wound near her eye. What is it?
This looks very sore and inflammed. It could be an infection or a tumor also. I recommend a veterinary exam, some cytology of the area to check for bacteria and abnormal cells. They then will probably give oral antibiotics and may recommend using a cone to prevent her rubbing this area which could slow down the healing. Why is my cat scratching an unhealed neck wound? What should I do?
From the picture I can only say this may be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. More investigations like sampling and bacterial swabs would be needed to determine the underlying cause more specifically. In my experience I have seen large wounds like this one from Poxvirus infection (but usually other wounds are present as well). I would suggest to handle this wound always with gloves (you are doing it anyway as I can see from the pic). Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. My cat's eye was pink yesterday, now red and swollen. What's wrong?
Hello, my name is Dr. Elizabeth and I certainly share your concern. With the description of the lesion changing quickly and how it looks, I'm concerned this is either ringworm (which humans can get) or a bacterial infection. I recommend to get Smokey into the veterinarian this week. They may want to test him for ringworm. I suspect he'll get some type of medication as well. At home you should have him wear an elizabethan collar at all times. You can purchase one of these at almost any pet store. Avoid touching that lesion. If you do, wash your hands really well with soap and water afterwards. You may consider isolating Smokey to one area in the house until you know it's not ringworm. Once a pet has ringworm, any place it hangs out needs to be thoroughly cleaned several times to remove the fungal spores. I hope this helps to provide some guidance and that this gets figured out quickly!

What's this bald spot or bump on my cat's eye? Vet or home care?
Ouch! Since that is so close to the eye, it should be seen by a vet in person just to make sure it doesn't become infected and spread to the eye itself, and to try and figure out what may have caused the initial injury. Your vet can also provide any pain or antibiotic medications as needed to help the spot heal. Until you can get to the vet, it is best to keep the spot clean and dry, and make sure that the eye isn't bothered. An Elizabethan (cone) collar is also a good idea to prevent scratching at it which can lead to infection or accidental scratching of the eye.

Why are my cat's neck and face sores not healing after vet visits?
Poor Gravy! Those do look painful. If you haven't yet, a skin scraping of the site sent to a lab may help determine if there is a specific bacteria or infection causing the wounds. This may give your vet the ability to target it better with a more specific antibiotic that will help it to heal. Making sure to keep Gravy from pawing at the spot with an Elizabethan (cone) collar can also help promote healing and prevent further irritation. In long-term non-healing wounds, many vets have also found success using Manuka honey (different than the honey you get in the grocery store) as a salve to help promote tissue growth and healing. Why is my cat's raw ear not healing despite e-collar and ointment?
Hi, I am sorry to hear about Sparrow's ear. The inside of his ear looks clean as you have shown in the picture. The back/base of his ear unfortunately looks quite infected. It is great that you are keeping the Ecollar on to prevent him from scratching the ear. Sometimes topical treatment alone will not be able to heal this type of infection. The area looks very moist, either from infection or the ointment(s) that are being applied. Typically when cats have an infected area on their skin, we want the area dry and do not put on topical treatments. This wound would most likely heal very quickly with a visit to Sparrow's veterinarian. The doctor can clip and clean the wound with medical grade gentle cleansing solution and get Sparrow on antibiotics. The antibiotics (which needs a doctor prescription) is the main treatment to get this to heal. I cannot recommend any further over the counter treatments that would allow this to heal. I am sorry about that. I would recommend to keep him indoors only, keep the ecollar on, and hold off on the ointment so the area can dry up. The veterinary appointment can hopefully happen soon and Sparrow will be on his way to healing quickly. Best of luck.
