Why is my kitten's third eyelid red, eye changed, and nose swollen?

It looks like Kitty might have an upper respiratory infection causing conjunctivitis. A viral infection is most common, although secondary bacterial infections can also occur. A scratch on the surface of the eye could also cause redness and discharge but would not cause sneezing. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian for an exam. They can check for a scratch on the cornea or prescribe medications to treat a respiratory infection.

This is a classic presentation of a cat with an upper respiratory disease and conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis can be caused by a few different infections, but is commonly caused by a virus that most cats harbor and comes out during times of stress. These infections can become complicated with bacterial infections and cause more problems. Nugget's eyes appear rather infected, so I recommend taking her to the vet for an evaluation. They will be able to better inspect the eye and provide the most appropriate treatment. For now, you can flush the eye 3-4 times a day with saline (can get this at the pharmacy) to help clean and soothe it. I am sorry to hear about your kitten! I would recommend bringing her in for an exam at your vet. If the swelling is progressing tonight or she develops any difficulty breathing I would get her to the emergency vet. We could have swelling do to an allergic reaction from an insect bite or exposure to any other substance/plant (most of the time we don't see a mark/know the cause) but I would also want to check for things like an abscess or infected tooth causing swelling. It sounds like he may also have a mild upper respiratory infection (like us having a cold) that he has passed to the other cats. The conjuctiva (lining to eyelid) of the left lower lid is very swollen. It is possible that the kitten scratched his eye while they were playing. He may also have an eye infection. He will likely need to see his veterinarian for a closer evaluation and medication. In the meantime, do not allow him to scratch the eye. I hope this information helps you and Hazel!

I would be concerned due to the swelling that there may be an infection (abscess) or other underlying issue that would need to be addressed. If the other cats she is playing with are experiencing similar signs, I suspect there is an infectious cause. I would recommend that she sees her veterinarian. She may require an antibiotic eye ointment. In the meantime, do not let her paws at her eyes as this can irritate them further. I hope this information helps!

Nose bleeds, balance issues and a growth on the nose are very worrisome signs that should be examined by your vet ASAP. Infections, systemic illness, neurologic issues, toxicity, something stuck in the nasal cavity, growths, tumors, etc can all be possible causes which would benefit from a complete exam. Your vet may recommend additional tests such as taking a sample of any growths, bloodwork, and looking in the nose itself to try and find the cause.
