My cat has pink, puffy, watery eyes after a fight. What's wrong?

Hello. I am sorry for your kitty being injured. Yes, Ginger may go blind, or even lose his eye if you do not have this attended to soon. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Based on your description, Rome may be dealing with an infection (bacterial or viral). I would recommend having Rome examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Rome may need a course of an antibiotic to help treat this along with eye drops if there is evidence of infection in the eyes. If he is sleeping more than usual, he may be lethargic from the infection. I would make sure he is eating and drinking ok. If not, then I would have him seen sooner rather than later. I would suspect that he may have gotten into a fight with another animal outdoors, or he could have injured his eye. He can't keep his eye open because the eye is painful to light. He has to see a vet immediately. Any eye problem is considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. The puffy cheek may be due to an abscess, possibly related to teeth. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. In case of a tooth abscess systemic antibiotics and tooth extraction will be needed.
