My cat has eye discharge and a potential stye. Does she need a vet?

Without seeing in person, I can't say exactly what it is on the bottom of her eye. Cats do get styes, they are localized glandular infections. I would recommend taking your cat into the vet to make sure that it is a style and not something else. In the meantime, there are few things you can do. Apply hot water to a clean cloth. Wring out the excess water and then gently press the warm, damp cloth to the affected eye. This will help to reduce swelling and inflammation. Keep the eye area clean. Contact your veterinarian if the stye persists for more than one week or if it worsens.

Poor guy. I would recommend certainly returning to the vet for a recheck. They eye needs to be looked at closely to ensure there aren't any abnormally placed eyelashes (i.e dystichia) or any abnormalities to the 3rd eyelid. Another course of antibiotics can be tried, but I would also recommend consider testing Ginger for infectious disease (i.e. herpesvirus) and starting anti-viral supplements. If there is still no resolve, then I would consider referring Ginger to an ophthalmologist for further care. I hope that things can be sorted out soon with your pet Ginger. I would have Junor seen by a vet. This discharge can be indicative of an eye infection, and that requires an antibiotic eye ointment to treat. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take Junor into a vet right away to have his eyes examined and treated.

I wouldn't worry too much. If she is tolerating you wiping it, just clean it as needed with with a warm wet cotton ball. If she is pawing at her eyes or rubbing her face on the ground, or seems to have any other issue going on, call your vet and get her in for an exam. Her duct that draining the eye could be clogged. I would put a warm compress on inner part of the eye near the nose and gently massage. You could also try Benadryl twice a day to see if there is an allergy component. If this doesn’t help, I would talk to your vet about y’all trying an antibiotics eye drop with or without a steroid to see if that helps it. One possibility is that the tears are not draining properly. If the eye is small, then this would definitely explain why it's not draining properly and is ending up on her face. They can also get blocked tear ducts that will cause a similar problem. If the eye and conjunctiva do not appear red, then I would not be worried about infection or other inflammation causing the discharge, but I'd have to examine her to be sure. Unfortunately, what you are describing is not specific to any one condition, so I am not able to narrow-down the causes and provide advice about treating it. I can say that if it is a blocked tear duct, or other drainage problem, then it would require veterinary intervention. It is best to have a veterinarian examine her to get a specific diagnosis. I'd try applying a warm compress to it five minutes a day a couple times a day to see if that helps open it up and drain. If this does not help, it gets bigger, starts bleeding or has pus, or it starts to bother her, then I would have her seen by a vet for it. I hope this helps!
