My cat's eye problems are back: third eyelid, discharge, squinting.

I am not able to appreciate something that looks like a stye. Dogs and cats can get infections in the oil glands at the edge of the eyelids. Warm compresses twice a day and eye medications can be used to help clear up the infection. I do think that Ginger needs to be examined by a vet to make sure that her eyelids aren't rolling in or that none of her eyelashes are bothering her cornea, which are common problems in dogs and cats with excessive skin folds around the eye. Use a warm wet wash cloth to gently clean her skin folds, and try to do it in a way that she feels comfortable, like a companion helping her groom.

Unfortunately, it appears that his infection was not completely cleared when the antibiotics finished. This happens sometimes, where the infection requires a longer than normal treatment period. I recommend having Smokey rechecked by your veterinarian, so they can further evaluate his condition and give another treatment plan. I hope that helps and Smokey gets better soon.

Secondary bacterial infection can occur, in which case an antibiotic is beneficial. If it is just viral, we have to rely on the body to fight the infection. If the eye is improving, the discharge will likely clear up. If it does not resolve 100% or worsens, I would have a vet examine midnight. I hope this helps! I would have Junor seen by a vet. This discharge can be indicative of an eye infection, and that requires an antibiotic eye ointment to treat. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take Junor into a vet right away to have his eyes examined and treated.

I am sorry to hear that but it is good that you tried to get Cookies some help! Elevated third eyelids can be caused by many different things including eye problems/irritation, respiratory infections, and a general feeling of being unwell. If the previous medicine did not help, I am sure your vet will want to see him again. I would want to know what his temperature was, how his eyes looked on exam and see if they recommend bloodwork, x-rays or further treatment (such as antibiotics or pain medicine). Poor guy. I can certainly appreciate a lot of swelling of his conjunctiva and discharge from that left eye. This is typically caused by a viral infection. Since there is improvement with the swelling, I would continue the course of treatment. You should also consider adding in an over the counter antiviral supplement called Lysine powder, which is found at most pet stores. This can help boost up Mischiefs immune system to fight the infection. Hopefully this fully resolved by the end of his treatment course. Hello, poor Freyja. She may be having a recurrent upper respiratory infection. Most common URI are by viruses (herpes and calicivirus) and then there's chlamydia which is bacterial. In addition to the antibiotics she may need to have antivirals such as oral lysine. I would have her rechecked by your veterinarian to rule out the possibility of a recurrent infection.
