My cat has eye discharge. Can I use rose water to clean her eyes?

Persians have very flat faces, and eye tearing and improper tear drainage due to their face structure. Bacteria causes the discharge to become rust-brown and can stain the face of white or light colored cats. You should clean Simba's face daily to prevent this from happening. You can eye use wipes, sold in pet stores, to keep them free of tears and the build up. You can also use a slightly damp cotton ball one to two times daily to wipe the area around the eyes, removing any dried, crusty tears that have formed overnight. It is a good idea to wipe away the discharge with a warm clean wash cloth or soft tissue. I suggest a cloth soaked with warm water or eye wash solution - every 1-3hrs is plenty often enough. Your vet will examine Sprinkles, maybe suggest an eye stain test to check for corneal ulcers (which can occur with feline herpes), and will probably dispense an antibiotic ointment.

Hi, I would recommend to see a vet to make sure that Paro is not suffering with a corneal ulcer or anything that requires more aggressive medical treatment. He seems to be in quite a lot of discomfort, so I think it is time to leave the current eye drops and get some more appropropriate treatment ! Hope he gets better soon

Persians have such compressed eye sockets that the normal amount of tears that every cat has ends up tearing in a Persian. Also because the eyes have more exposure they probably create a little more tear film. Nothing will “fix” this. However, rinsing with isotonic saline can help rinse any debris out and keep the cornea as healthy as possible. I would keep doing that. If the eyes are red or if the discharge is green the. I wouldn't worry too much. If she is tolerating you wiping it, just clean it as needed with with a warm wet cotton ball. If she is pawing at her eyes or rubbing her face on the ground, or seems to have any other issue going on, call your vet and get her in for an exam. Yes, you can try just plain saline. Flush gently for a few seconds. But if you don't see any improvement within 24 hours, I would have Onyx checked out by a vet. There could be a small scratch or ulcer causing the discharge to build up, or even the start of an upper respiratory tract infection.
