My cat has epilepsy. Can his medication be given once a day instead?

Hello. Felamizole generally stays in the system for 12 hours, but it is not uncommon to increase the dose when an owner will be away temporarily. It is best to start the 5mg once a day several days before you leave to see if you notice any difference in Mia, but I have recommended this in the past. I also do not like the fact that he randomly goes off eating. This could be secondary to all of his issues and not a big deal. Your vet can certainly run so additional blood work to make sure nothing else is going on. Or you could also get a referral to see a veterinary neurologist to run additional testing if needed. I would also talk to your vet about keeping some appetite stimulants on hand to help get him back to eating quicker than 2-3 days. I hope this helps!

Gabapentin is no longer used for seizures as there are much more effective medications. max needs to be examined by the veterinarian today to be tested for different causes of seizures and then to discuss the best medication. I hope this helps and that Max responds to treatment.

However, seizures are unpredictable and this may have occurred even if you had administered the medication on his normal 12 hour schedule. Yes, I would agree with the second Vet and recommend to inject Diazepam only in case of seizure. It does not make pharmacologically and therapeutic sense to give Diazepam daily.
