Can pets safely eat homemade french fries with olive oil and salt?

While McDonald fries are certainly delicious, they are not meant for dogs. The problem with them is that they are both high in fat and salt, and fatty foods cause pancreatitis in dogs. Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas, and it's a very serious condition that requires intensive care because it can be fatal. If T'challa ate these fries within the last two hours, you can take him into a vet immediately to have vomiting induced to prevent any problems. If it's been longer than two hours, monitor him. Should you see a loss of appetite, vomiting, and/or belly pain, that could mean he has pancreatitis and you will need to take him into a vet immediately. I would withhold food for tonight and if he appears fine tomorrow and doesn't show any of the symptoms I mentioned above, feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. No, this is not an acceptable food for Brad. Anything cooked in oil, even vegetable oil, can cause pancreatitis in dogs which is very serious and can be deadly. He should only be eating dog food. The reason why he is picky is that he knows you will give him human food if he doesn't eat his dog food. You need to get strict with him. Put down his bowl of dog food first thing in the morning, and leave it down for 20 minutes. After that time, pick it up even if he hasn't eaten anything. This next step is very important. Do NOT give him any other food. No human food, no treats. He needs to learn that he has to eat his dog food when it's given to him, and he won't get any other food at all. At dinnertime, again put his food down for 20 minutes, taking it away after that time. No more food until breakfast the next day. He will get hungry enough to eat his dog food. It may cause a little bit of gastrointestinal upset so monitor for vomiting and diarrhea. You could feed a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice if he has any gastrointestinal issues but he should be examined by your vet if any clinical signs persist.

Eating too much sugar and carbohydrates can lead to problems with obesity in dogs, just like in people. It is better to stick with healthier treats - you may want to try offering Olie a piece of carrot or small piece of sweet potato instead of sweets.

Neither of these should be given in any significant quantity. In some dog foods, there will be small amounts of sugars and salts. However, any excessive amount of either of these can result in illnesses. Salt in large amounts is especially dangerous, as this can result in kidney issues that can be difficult to resolve.

Hello. Yes, they can, but should they? Hot dogs are loaded with fats, sugars & salt & not very nutritious for us or for our pets. An occasional treat or taste is fine, but I have seen too many dogs get hooked on fatty meats & refuse to eat their regular diet. As a result, we see obesity, pancreatitis, organ damage & skin problems. If you want to treat Piper, or use a small piece as a training aid, that is fine, as long as she eats a good balanced dog food diet daily.
