Is it safe for cats to eat bacon grease, teriyaki jerky, or raw eggs?

I wouldn't recommend frying the eggs but giving scrambled eggs in moderation is okay to add into their food. Fried eggs have excess amounts of grease and can lead to GI upset so I would avoid frying any foods that you are giving to your two cats. I hope this helps!

Hello, and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Small bits of cooked chicken can be a good treat for a cat, but I would stay away from the other foods you mentioned. None of those foods are dangerous, but cheese and milk can cause diarrhea and GI upset, and crackers & bread are not very nutritious for cats. Better to stick with little bits of cooked meat. Feeding cats raw eggs, peanut butter, popcorn and canned fish sound like old wives' tales with no scientific basis. :-) That said, it is fine to give Penelope a cooked egg 1-2 times per week in addition to a balanced commercial diet. It won't necessarily keep her healthier for longer, but it shouldn't do any harm.

You may notice that Leo has some gastrointestinal symptoms after eating the bacon grease. These would include vomiting, diarrhea, and inappetance. If Leo has these symptoms for more than 24 hours I would recommend taking him in to see you vet as he may need some medication to help stop the vomiting and/or clear up the diarrhea. 7-8. Even half of a teaspoon has the potential to cause pancreatitis. A few years ago, I dropped one small piece of potato on the floor that had been fried in oil, and my dog got ahold of it before I could stop her. She ended up with pancreatitis the next morning from it. Stop giving Reggie the bacon grease.

People food is just that – food for people. Cats are obligate carnivores, and as such, have a delicate balance of protein, carbohydrates, fat, and vitamins and minerals that must be maintained. Cats should eat a balanced high quality diet in order to meet all of their nutritional needs. Unbalanced diets with vitamin/mineral imbalances risk a variety of health problems. Home cooked diets are not as commonly recommended, but are preferred by some cats and pet owners. If you opt to go down this road, a carefully crafted recipe by a specialist in veterinary nutrition should be used with proper vitamin and mineral supplementation. Even with a commercial diet, occasional treats of boiled white meat chicken, turkey, salmon, or tuna can be perfectly fine in small quantities.

Hi and thanks for posting. It is okay to give your cat egg every once in a while as a treat, but should not be an every day event as eggs do have quite a bit of fat in them that could cause an upset stomach for a small 6 lb cat.
