Is this a tick on my cat's ear, or is it a scab or growth?

Even though the pics are slightly out of focus, the growth you described seems to be a tick. I would recommend a clinical examination at your local veterinarian as an essential to confirm this and remove it appropriately. Local antibiotics may be needed.

This looks like a nipple to me - look above and below it and you should see more nipples in a line if that’s what it is. If not I’d guess this is something like a skin tag or other skin growth and it would be a good idea to have your vet take a look when you get a chance to see if it’s something that should be removed. It does not look like a tick to me.

I can't tell based on the photo if there are potential legs there. Try to look at the base of this thing near where it is attached to the ear to see if you see many legs sticking out on the sides. if there are no legs, then this is a mass. I would then recommend having your vet take a look at this for further testing and possible surgical removal. If this is a tick, then proper removal of the tick should be done with hemostats through your vet or any other person who is trained in proper tick removal. I would then recommend a high quality flea/tick preventative such as Simparica, Bravecto, Nexgard or even over the counter Advantix can work in many pets. That looks like a tick. I suggest you remove it or have it removed by someone else. Make sure you check the rest of his body for any others. If he goes outdoors you need to be sure to use a flea/tick prevention on him EVERY month. If you are referring to the small circlular dot on the skin in front of the opening to the ear, it is possible this is just a spot of pigment in the skin- like a freckle. I cannot tell for certain with a photo, but if the area is not raised or irritated that would be my suspicion. With ear mites or infection we see redness and discharge down inside the ear canal/ear hole. If it is a raised scab in that spot, and inside the ear hole looks clean and not red at all, it could just be a small wound. If you notice redness or discharge in the ear canal, an exam is needed. Or if your cat is scratching at the ears or shaking his head, he should be examined.

I would recommend taking him to a vet to confirm and have them remove it. If it is, you have to make sure you remove the entire head and in that location it may be tricky. I don’t know about tick borne diseases in Ireland but in the US ticks can carry diseases that could cause problems in pets. The vet can discuss these further when they see Snowball. This may be a small reaction to getting bitten by something or an allergy to something in the environment. the skin around the scab does not appear to be inflamed or infected and that is a good sign. If it does not go away or begins to spread or bother him, I would see a vet for medication to clear it
