My kitten has ear mites. Will they spread to my bed or other pets?

There are several parasites that are zoonotic (transmissible to people) that may be afflicting her right now. Therefore to be safe and preventative, I would recommend locking her out of your room until you can get her tested and get a clean bill of health status for your kitty. : ) The likelihood of you actually getting infested with worms is low if you practice good hygiene; however, if you want to be 100% certain, just don't allow her on the bed anymore until you are sure. And for the record, there were only a few cases of people getting infested with Roundworms, so the chances of transmission for that worm is very low. However, there can be other worms or parasites present in her stool that are microscopic so you would not be able to tell they are there until her stool is examined at the vet.

Sarcoptes scabei mites can infect people and if you are infected disinfectant alone will not take care of the problem. If Gandalf was diagnosed with this type of mite you should talk to your physician. Demodex mites are not transmitted to people.

Ear mites do not appear to be very contagious to humans, but some people have reported a skin rash if their pets had ear mites. I have never seen this, but it is possible. There have not been reports of humans getting ear mites in their ears, so that does not appear to be a problem. The most likely way for these to transfer is ear to ear, or ear to face contact between the two cats. It is highly unlikely for you to be the medium on which they transport should these cats never interact. A dose of Revolution, however, would fix and prevent this problem in both cats.

Demodex mange is not contagious so you don't have to worry about the kitten being with other animals. Sarcoptic mange on the other hand, is contagious but it sounds like she doesn't have that. I hope this helps. Best wishes!

You should consider vacuuming and cleaning your house thoroughly once the cat leaves and then consider a preventative for Princess called Revolution which prevents ear mites but also fleas and heartworms. Hello. True bedbugs definitely prefer humans to pets, so there is only a small chance of the cat bringing the pests into your home. But there is a small chance this can happen. I would really recommend boarding the cat while the home is being treated. There are no recommended products that can be used on a cat, so treatment is geared toward eliminating the pests in the home environment.
