My kitten has demodex mange. Is it contagious to my other pets?

This does not look like mange, however this could be a fungal infection or a bacterial infection or overgrooming in a spot where the cat experiences pain. You should schedule an appointment with a veterinarian for a skin exam. If it is a fungal infection (ringworm) it would be contagious. to other pets as well as humans.

Mange may be contagious for weeks and also there is a risk she may be carrying other diseases such as flu, at least 3weeks isolation would be recommended and institute monthly mange prevention for at least 3 months in your other cats

If the dogs have been together for a month, then your yorkie has certainly been exposed to anything contagious that Gia may have, so I would try to clarify with your vet the reason for the recommended separation. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor kittens! Until you get a diagnosis from your Vet I can't answer you on if it is transmittable ti humans. You may also have different diseases in your country than we do in the US. Possible causes of the skin condition are: fleas (people can get bitten), allergies to food or environment (not contagious), demodex (mites not contagious to people) or ring worm which is a fungal skin infection (is contagious to people). Fleas are easy to fix. Allergies are frustrating and can take a while to find the medication and food that works. Demedex is relatively easy to fix. Ring worm can take a long time and oral medications and lyme sulfur dips. I hope this helps and your Vet will be able to get you the diagnosis. I wish you and the kittens the best!

It depends on what kind of mange they have. Sarcoptic mange (also called scabies) is contagious to other dogs as well as humans, so it's common for multiple dogs in a household to be affected. Demodectic mange, on the other hand, is not contagious and is normally inherited or caused by an immune deficiency of some kind. In that case, unless the dogs are all related, there is no good reason why three dogs in the same household would have this problem. I'm not sure if the dogs have actually been diagnosed with mange by a veterinarian - but if not, I would definitely recommend a vet check. There are many things besides mange that can cause itching and hair loss in dogs, including allergies, fleas, or a bacterial or fungal skin infection, which can often affect multiple dogs in the same house.

These lesions look suspicious of scabies mites, ringworm and/or this could be a result of a current ear infection (ear mites) and fleas. Neither of these conditions can be properly diagnosed and treated without the help of your veterinarian unfortunately. I would try to take at least 1 cat in to the vet to have a skin scrape and ear exam + ear cytology (if debris is seen inside the ear canal) to try and confirm the diagnosis so that we know how to best help your pets. I am highly suspicious that this is a contagious skin disease however because multiple pets have skin problems at the same time. Poor cats. Is the mange currently being treated with an oral product such as Nexgard, Bravecto, Simparica or Credelio? Demodex mites are found on virtually all dogs, but it does take a suppressed immune system for them to overpopulate and cause an infection. If the mange is already being treated and your own dog is otherwise healthy, the risk *should* be fairly low.
