Can my dog get ear mites from a cat that left? How to prevent?

The most likely way for these to transfer is ear to ear, or ear to face contact between the two cats. It is highly unlikely for you to be the medium on which they transport should these cats never interact. A dose of Revolution, however, would fix and prevent this problem in both cats.

If he truly has mites, they are not going to completely go away with the peroxide so if the ears get dirty again as before, I recommend you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Cute kitty! It may take 3-4 weeks for the revolution to completely rid the infection. You can purchase Eradimite or Otomite without a prescription and this may help rid the infection more quickly. Not sure if the Zymox you’re using is the treatment drops (which are great) or the cleanser (also a great product) but if it’s not the cleanser you are using already, then get some type of ear cleanser to help break up the “gunk” and get them out of there. No, do not put oil in their ears! That will make things so much worse! Unfortunately no, this cannot be treated at home, they need medication from the vet to treat the ear mites. Revolution is an excellent product that kills ear mites. Best of luck.

You may want to consider treating the ear mites with a different medication which is applied to the base of the neck instead of inside the ears. This product is called Revolution and is a prescription medication you can get from your veterinarian that can be used to treat ear mites in cats. Might be a better alternative in Muffin's case. They are cute! Mites prefer to stay on the dogs rather than people because dogs have a higher body temperature than people. That probably is why you don't have them. If the mites are not going away I would bathe the black one, Toby?, with flea shampoo. The ear mite medication you can get from your veterinarian may be more effective than what you get at the pet store. I like to use Revolution. Controlling the mites and fleas will also reduce the itching from his allergies. Luckily the parasites don't like your white dog, they seem to prefer certain ones over others.
