My cat is dizzy and weak after ivermectin overdose. What should I do?

The toxic dose for this drug is quite high, but what you are describing definitely sounds like toxic reaction and requires emergency veterinary care to prevent Luis from getting worse. The veterinarian will likely want to have him on IV fluids and keep him for observation over the next 24 hours, since this is the most critical time. There is really nothing you can do for him at home, so it's best to get him to the vet as soon as possible. Also, I would consider not using piperazine again in any of your pets. Hi Joanna, you really need to get a second opinion from another vert. It sounds like a hypersensitivity reaction to the topical deworming treatment. He needs an injection of an anti-inflammatory/steroid and anti-histamine and some fluids to counteract the reaction. He should feel better pretty quickly after that treatment.

It's impossible to know what happened to Melcho on his journey. What you are doing currently is the best you can do until a vet is open. Continue to syringe feed small frequent amounts of a/d and water. If available near you an oral electrolyte solution for kids with diarrhea such as pedialyte maybbe helpful to give him orally. Look for an unflavored version. Or water off of tuna fish cans or low sodium chicken broth can be used if he will lap it. Give him a warm area such as a heating pad on low if he wants it but don't force him to stay on a heating pad. Make sure he can move off of it if he desires. Small frequent feedings are key. Do not do a lot of food or liguid at once. Good luck to Melcho. I hope he feels better soon. But I would recommend a veterinary visit asap to evaluate him for injury even if he starts eating on his own.

Hi there. Due to the nature of your pet's illness and conccurrent illnesses-it sounds as if he may have a few things going on. If he was still suffering from residual effects from the ivermectin poisoning, it is likely the Bartonella is even harder on his small body. Depending on the age of your animal and the level of tissue damage from the illnesses (both of which we are unsure of here) it's is impossible to predict his likelihood of recovery or how long the seizures will last. Normally, I will tell you that seizures in this particular case is a relatively poor prognostic indicator. Any animal that had undergone so many issues in a short time should be hospitalized and on iv fluids if at all possible for treatment. My best to you both.
