My cat is having tremors after taking Piperazine. Is it an overdose?

Since he is eating, it may be helpful to feed him a high fat meal. See if he will eat a little Ghee or something else really fatty. The fat can help bind the toxin in the blood. You can also make sure he gets plenty of water. You can add rehydration salts (ORS) to his water. If he's not drinking, then you can gently put some in his mouth with a syringe. Don't force it though. You should also try to keep him warm. Ideally, this cat would have and IV drip and be under observation until the toxin was cleared; so try to get him to the vet as soon as you can in the morning.

Unfortunately, this could be serious. As I'm sure you know, this is an extended release product, and the typical dose is 100mg per cat every 24 hours, so yes, I believe you very well might see toxicity from this, including (on the mild side) excitement, hyperactivity, vomiting, and diarrhea, all the way up to seizures. You have a couple of options: you can call the ASPCA's toxin hotline at (888) 426-4435; they will charge you for the call ($45) but they keep an extensive database on all types of overdoses and will be able to tell you if this is a significant overdose. Your other option is to take Nox to an emergency clinic now to have vomiting induced, and have him treated for the ingestion. They will be able to administer activated charcoal to absorb any residual toxins in the gut as well.

Hello. According to the manufacturer, cats as young as 5.5 weeks tolerated doses of 5x labeled dose every 14 days. For your kitten, you are just about there. But it really takes a massive overdose to start to get concerned. But do watch for signs of overdose including salivation, vomiting & depression. If you see any of these signs in the next hour or so, & they do not clear up within a few hours, or the kitten really seems significantly affected, do seek veterinary attention. If he was just recently treated and is now having a severe reaction to the treatment it is best to contact the vet that treated him and bring him back in for care immediately. They may need to place him on IV fluids or other measures to reverse any reactions and get him recovering. If your current vet is not available, seeking out an emergency vet in your area is best.

I am sorry to hear that Toby sounds like he is having an adverse reaction to the tapeworm medicaiton. This sounds serious. I would highly recommend taking Toby in to your vet to have him treated for an adverse reaction, which includes fluids for flush out his system and and symptomatic treatment. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! In the US we do not use Albendazole in dogs or cats. If Oscar only weighs 5.5 lbs and if he was given 5mls that is 200mg of albendazole and at that dose it has been reported to cause mental dullness and decreased appetite in cats. It can also affect white and red blood cells. I don't have much information about overdoses in dogs. Stop giving him the medication. The dose of ivermectin should be ok. If he gets worse or doesn't improve he should be taken to an emergency hospital. Good luck!

I am so sorry that your furry friend Ralph is doing so poorly after a dewormer. You would think if this was the cause that she would have recovered by now. If x-rays didn't show a blockage and labwork came back normal, then it sounds like Ralph just needs supportive care. If he is vomiting things back up at home, then the best course of action here is to admit her to the hospital for a few days so that she can get IV fluids and IV medication until he is well enough to be discharged. Some pets just need extra support, especially older, more sensitive pets. If she is still not doing well after 24 hrs of hospitalization, then I would suggest getting an abdominal ultrasound done on her to get a closer look at things.
