My 16-year-old cat is sick after wormer, not eating for 3 days. What's wrong?

I would get her in to see your vet as soon as possible. It is vital that cats eat because after only a few days of not eating they can suffer liver damage. Take the worms too to see if they can identify them. Your vet will do an exam and labwork and based on these results will be better able to tell you what is wrong and how best to treat it.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Laila. I would advise taking her to your vet immediately if she won't eat. She may be running a fever, have some pain/discomfort, etc. Your vet can take a detailed history, perform an examination, and recommend a diagnostic/treatment plan. Once a diagnosis is made a sound treatment plan can be implemented. You can try cyproheptadine if you have it but I'm concerned she may be running a fever from a viral infection, not sure how much the cypro will help. The normal dose is 2 mg every 12 hours in cats. It's actually pretty serious when a cat won't eat anything as if they go long enough without eating, they will develop a fatty liver. Because Toby is still vomiting and not eating, it's time to see a vet immediately. Please take him into an ER vet now. If there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to find that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Precious! I think you should take Precious to the Vet today before the weekend. Three days is a long time to be sick and not be better. We don't like cats going more than 3 days with out eating. I would collect a stool sample to bring with you so the Vet can check for intestinal parasites. Causes of vomiting, diarrhea and not eating in an older cat are: kidney and liver failure, diabetes, overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), intestinal parasites, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease and cancer. Your Vet, after their exam, will likely do blood work, check her stool for parasites and possibly take an X-ray of her belly. I hope this helps and I wish Precious a speedy recovery!

It is rare for worms to kill a cat unless they cause a full obstruction of the bowel with severe, persistent vomiting or extreme weight loss. It would be important to deworm her within the next 48hours and to schedule an emergency vet assessment if she becomes weak

Poor Gizmo Hill! If she has not eaten in three days, this is a very serious problem - cats can develop a life-threatening illness called hepatic lipidosis from not eating for multiple days in a row, so it's very important to find out what is causing her to not eat and get her started on appropriate treatment right away. I would recommend taking her to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to - she may need blood work and x-rays to help diagnose the problem so that she can be treated before things get worse.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Meu needs to see a veterinarian asap. She has multiple issues that can be making her sick and could potentially be fatal. Falls can often cause internal injuries, broken jaws/ribs or broken teeth. All of which can be painful and potential fatal if there was any organ damage. Meu also needs to be checked and treated for parasites. Cats that have not been spayed are also at risk of pyometra or a life threatening uterine infection. It is impossible to know what is causing her signs of illness without an exam and possible diagnostic testing. I hope Meu is feeling better soon.
