My cat got diarrhea from milk. Why is cow's milk bad for cats?

Yes, that could be the problem for sure. If that is the case though, the diarrhea should be self-limiting meaning that it will go away on it's own without treatment. If it does not go away, then you should get them to your vet for an exam. Despite what people believe, giving yogurt (or any dairy products) to cats is not recommended. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

As long as she’s feeling fine and eating and drinking she should be fine. Please get her back on cat food and water only and this loose stool should resolve without treatment. When cats have bowel irritation they can pass small amounts of blood. If she’s not eating well, not drinking or the diarrhea lasts more than a day then please take her in for an exam and treatment. Feel free to ask as many questions as you want, that's what we are here for :-) This milk is absolutely fine to give to Okoye. It's lactose free, and it's lactose that cats are intolerant to and cannot have due to the GI side effects. It's ok for her to drink this. I hope this helps!

Kitties can't digest human milk well. This is likely what gave your little one diarrhea. I would switch back to the KMR and start mixing in small amounts of wet kitty starter formula food. You can also mix in 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) to help harden her stools and continue feeding her kitten only food. If he stools are not getting better after 24-48 hrs then its best to take her to your vet for a short course of antibiotics to get her bacterial flora back to normal. Kittens and puppies once weaned from their mother lose the ability to digest the milk sugar lactose. Just like people that are lactose intolerant. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, intestinal cramping can develop. Just provide fresh water always.

Cows milk is not good to give to kittens because cats are lactose intolerant and it causes GI upset. Feed Tom a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Actually most adult cats and dogs are lactose intolerant. In some cats milk or dairy products can cause vomit or diarrhea. But others tolerate it. My opinion is if Jhumru doesn't get sick from milk then there is no reason to stop, but watch for any signs of an upset stomach.
