Why is my cat having diarrhea after coming out of her heat cycle?

No, diarrhea like that is not normal. I’m not sure that it has anything to do with the mating, but I would be concerned that she could get dehydrated quickly losing that much fluid. As long as she continues to eat well, this should slowly resolve over the course of the next 3-4 days. Some cats can develop a uterine infection after their heat cycle. it is recommended to take her to the vet in order check for an infection. in most cases it's recommended to spay her if this is indeed the cause. if she isn't eating at all since her cycle started it's very bad, a cat usually starts developing fatty liver if he stops eating for more than 3 days strait.

Yes, she is probably coming into heat. I recommend spaying her soon or she will become pregnant if you let her out. Even if she’s indoors all the time, cats will go in and out of heat frequently and that can cause health issues so it’s best to get her spayed to prevent future problems. As far as the diarrhea and swollen belly goes, she may have intestinal parasites. You can bring a stool sample to your veterinarian and they can see what types of intestinal parasites she has and prescribe the correct dewormer for her. I would be concerned that gizmo could have parasites. Sometimes parasites will cause diarrhea is younger animals. I would recommend taking them to a vet to have a good physical exam and a fecal sample to be examined. That way if she does have parasites the vet can give proper medications. Hope that helps

Oh no, poor Shadow! She could be having a pyometra (infected uterus) event or another internal illness. None of these symptoms are normal for a cat in heat or just coming out or heat. And any cat that doesn't eat for more than a day should be examined by a vet because cats are masters at hiding diseaseand illness until they are really really sick. I would recommend taking Shadow in to be seen, examined and blood analysis ran to hopefully determine the underlying issue so that we know how best to treat her. Hopefully it is something your vet can deal with quickly so that we can get her feeling well again soon!

Diarrhea and a decrease in appetite could be a sign of a number of different problems. Intestinal parasites are possible, even for indoor cats, as are some infections or diseases like colitis or inflammatory bowel disease. If the diarrhea continues for more than 24 hours or seems to be getting worse, or if her appetite does not improve during that time I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian. They may treat her symptoms or recommend some testing like blood work or a fecal analysis depending on what they find during a physical examination.
