My cat chews plastic wrappers. Should I be worried about her health?

Cats tend to enjoy chewing on things, such as plastics, boxes, etc. It would be best to keep Ella away from any plastic bits she may accidentally eat, and distract her with other toys and treats as needed. If she does eat some plastic, vet care is best.

I’m guessing it was a plastic wrapper - if it was small then it would probably pass without any problems. If it is larger then it might cause vomiting, diarrhea or even an obstruction. I’d recommend seeing your veterinarian if Ozzy vomits, develops diarrhea or has a decrease in appetite.

Hello. Without knowing how large the plastic wrapper was, you might want to have Coco seen by your veterinarian to induce him to throw the wrapper up. I would be concerned that the wrapper might cause an intestinal blockage, so it might be best to get it out before it causes a real problem. Cats are weird creatures! It is common for cats to chew on non-food items, though you should be careful about keeping things picked up because they can swallow things that can cause internal harm or intestinal blockage. However, it may be a good idea to have him examined by a vet to make sure there isn’t a medical reason for this. They can taste a lot of different things, and will have preferences for different flavors. I would avoid offering them many seeets, though, since it can contribute very quickly to obesity and could cause an upset stomach. Remember, one bite of sweet food for them would be like you eating 15 of them at once!

I don't know the exact reason but one of my cats has been doing that for 10 years, i too in the beginning was a little concerned but it's mainly chewing, less ingesting, i think she does that because she just likes the chewing feeling of plastic.

This may be a normal behavior for Sky but I would recommend you find a safer chew toy for her. My biggest concern is that she would ingest a piece of the plastic which could cause GI distress and/or a blockage. If Sky starts chewing on other inappropriate items, is vomiting or having diarrhea, or goes off her food, I would recommend you take her in to your veterinarian to be examined. I hope this helps. This a frustrating and potentially dangerous personality quark in some cats! However, It usually does not indicate any underlying medical issue. I recommend taking great pains to make all plastic inaccessible to Luna. Some cats are very persistent about seeking out their plastic fix. The problem with this plastic habit, is that if Luna eats some plastic that is too large, it can get stuck in her stomach or intestines and require surgery to remove. If Luna ever starts vomiting suddenly, be sure to let your vet know that she's a plastic eater.
