What causes my cat to chew plastic bags and then throw them up?

This a frustrating and potentially dangerous personality quark in some cats! However, It usually does not indicate any underlying medical issue. I recommend taking great pains to make all plastic inaccessible to Luna. Some cats are very persistent about seeking out their plastic fix. The problem with this plastic habit, is that if Luna eats some plastic that is too large, it can get stuck in her stomach or intestines and require surgery to remove. If Luna ever starts vomiting suddenly, be sure to let your vet know that she's a plastic eater.

Some cats chew on it because they like the taste and texture in their mouth. This can be a concern because if the cat eats it, it can cause a foreign body. When I was in college, I had a cat eat the plastic streamers from a pom pom, and she had to have emergency surgery. I would keep Sasha from doing this. I hope this helps!

Cats tend to enjoy chewing on things, such as plastics, boxes, etc. It would be best to keep Ella away from any plastic bits she may accidentally eat, and distract her with other toys and treats as needed. If she does eat some plastic, vet care is best.

This may be a normal behavior for Sky but I would recommend you find a safer chew toy for her. My biggest concern is that she would ingest a piece of the plastic which could cause GI distress and/or a blockage. What a cute cat ! The only way to make sure she does not eat these things is to remove these things from the house or keep them put away so she cannot get to them. If she continues eating this type of material, she may have serious GI issues or a blockage.

Poor Jude. It is common for cats to OCCASIONALLY vomit, but not on a daily or even every other day basis. If he is commonly throwing up it could be hairballs, eating too fast, or even something else like inflammatory bowel disease. If you don't already, I would definitely put him on a regular hair ball treatment. I like the products laxatone or catlax. You can offer him smaller and more frequent meals or a food ball that dispenses food as he knocks the toy around if he eats really fast. As far as the licking obsessively, some cats do this secondary to stress or if they are itching a lot. If he doesn't do it constantly then I wouldn't be too concerned about it. If he continues to vomiting frequently I would talk to your vet about looking into it. Your vet will likely recommend blood work, a fecal to rule out parasites and giardia, possible abdominal x-rays or ultrasound, and a possible GI panel which will help to rule inflammatory bowel disease out. It sounds like Bella is quite the character! Cats can have all sorts of odd little idiosyncrasies. Plastic and plastic bags seem to be a favorite of many cats.
