My cat just gave birth. How do I care for her and the new kittens?

Hello. Make sure your Momma cat has a quiet, safe & secure area to have her kittens, away from noise, other pets, & weather. You can begin feeding her a good kitten food ( dry or canned ) and continue the kitten food up until the kittens are weaned . This will give her extra calories to maintain her pregnancy & provide plenty of rich milk for her kittens. She will probably not leave her babies for the first couple of days, so make sure her litter box, food & water are close by. Great questions! It sounds like Cece is doing a really good job so far, and you don't really have to do anything. Weigh the kittens daily to make sure they are gaining weight every day, and that will tell if they are eating enough. If they are crying excessively, that means they aren't getting enough to eat, and you will have to supplement with kitten formula. Make sure she has a quiet place to be with the kittens, and leave food, water, and litter box nearby for Cece. I hope this helps, enjoy the new kittens!

Make sure there is no stress, leave mama alone. Do not constantly handle the kittens. Feed Bambi good quality kitten food, wet and dry. Leave the kittens with mama until they are at least 12 weeks old. Take them to a veterinarian for vaccinations at the age of 8 weeks (and continue for the next rounds of vaccinations as your vet prescribes), start worming them at 6 weeks and worm them every 2 weeks until they are 12 weeks old. Apart from that, cat mamas are great mothers who will teach their kittens everything they need to know, what food to eat, how to use a cat litter box, how to hunt, how to play fight (important for kittens to grow up with their siblings until they are 12 weeks plus old.) Ava is lovely! Weigh the kittens daily to make sure they are gaining weight. Feed Ava a kitten formulated food so she has extra calories, calcium, and protein to support feeding the kittens. What sweet little kittens! Those pictures are so adorable! I would not be too concerned about the mama cat just yet. She is probably exhausted from giving birth and nursing. You may want to move her to a location where you can keep a better eye on her so you can check on her regularly. Place a litter box within easy reach so she doesn’t have to travel far away from her kittens to use the bathroom. Try palpating her abdomen as well. It should be soft and doughy, not firm or hard or painful. If it feels abnormal you should probably take her in to the vet to make sure there are no kittens remaining inside of her. You can also try taking her temperature at home. If it is greater than 103 or less than 99, she needs to be seen by a vet. Finally, continue offering her fresh food and water. Keep in mind she will need a lot of extra calories since she is nursing 6 kittens. Feeding her a kitten food would be best. You can also try feeding her canned food or moistening her food with water to ensure she is getting enough. If your cat still refuses to move after 48-72 hours there may be something wrong and you should take her in to be checked out. I hope this helps. Congrats on Rihana having kittens! The good news is that cats typically do not need help giving birth to kittens, and I would leave her alone to give birth. Too much interference from a human can cause stress in the mother, and it is recommended not to intervene unless the cat is having problems giving birth.
