My cat is bleeding when pooping and has a swollen tummy. What's wrong?

Oh dear, this sounds potentially serious. I recommend taking Phoebe right in to the vet. If Phoebe is not eating or drinking, and has bloody stool, she could quickly become dehydrated. Furthermore, she has had to be expending a great deal of energy nursing those kittens, and I'm concerned about her lethargy. Your vet will likely want to check a fresh fecal sample for intestinal parasites, particularly due to her pot belly and bloody stool. They will be able to give her fluids to combat dehydration, and may also recommend bloodwork to check her organ function and watch for anemia since she's losing blood through her stool. Hello. Vomiting and blood in the feaces could be signs of a mild gastritis, or could be much more severe. If the poop was very big and hard, then the vomiting could be secondary to Wally being constipated. If the poop was soft and liquid then he could have a gastritis. If he is eating/drinking well, and just had one episode and is back to normal, you can monitor him for now, but if he is lethargic, still vomiting, and if the blood gets worse or continues, then I would bring him to a vet. Mabel is such a cute kitty!! A small amount of bruising around the incision can be normal, but swelling can indicate a possible breakdown in the stitches holding the muscle together and should be checked out sooner rather than later, especially if Mabel seems painful. If the sutures Di breakdown it is possible for intestines to then become trapped beneath the skin and this can be very serious. I would recommend placing an ecollar on Mabel and confining her to a kennel or large box until you are able to have her seen. Excessive activity following surgery is not recommended and can exacerbate any complications that may develop. I hope Mabel feels better soon!
