My cat is vomiting and has blood in its poop. What could be wrong?

Poor Sebastian! While this vomiting could be caused by his food, if he's been on it a while, then it's more likely caused by something else. Vomiting and blood in the stool can be caused by a severe GI illness, a foreign body, severe intestinal parasite infection, GI ulcers, or exposure to toxins. Because blood in the stool is not normal and can be caused by serious illness, it would be best that he is taken into a vet now for an exam. The vet can diagnose what is causing the vomiting and bloody stool, and can treat him for it.

I can see that the vomit has blood in it, which can be caused by stomach ulcers. Dark feces can also be an indicator of digested blood in the stool, which occurs with ulcers. Ulcers can be caused by a number of underlying conditions such as chronic foreign bodies, diet, or kidney disease. The sneezing can be a sign of pain or unrelated to the vomiting (concurrent upper respiratory or lung disease). I recommend having your cat seen by a vet right away. They will likely recommend bloodwork and x-rays to diagnose and localize the issue and begin an appropriate treatment plan. I am sorry Wally is not feeling well I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian as soon as possible. It is very concerning that Wally is having labored breathing. Infection, viruses, gastric upset parasites and more can cause these signs and he really needs some testing to determine why and proper management. I hope he feels better soon!

Many disease processes can cause loose bloody stool including: intestinal parasites, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, lymphoma (cancer of the intestines), dietary indiscretion (eating something he shouldn't have), and even a bacterial infection. The first step would be to do a full panel bloodwork analysis, fecal exam and urinalysis done on Oliver. This should be ble to narrow things down quite a bit so that your vet can know what Oliver needs treatment wise. I would suggest scheduling an appt for him soon at your local vet. He could be suffering from a foreign body, GI polyps, or GI tumors causing him to vomiting, not be able to poop, and not eat or drink. He needs veterinary treatment now. There are many things that could cause his symptoms. Unfortunately they are non-specific and could be a symptoms of almost anything. Bleeding from the anus frequently signifies a serious disorder. Possible causes of bleeding from the anus can include polyps or tumors of the colon or anus, abscess or infection of the anal gland, constipation, blood clotting disorders, autoimmune disease or even certain types of poisoning. Any chance he ate a toxic plant or was exposed to any toxins? Intestinal parasites are another possibility. Whipworms are intestinal parasites. They are about 1/4-inch long and live in the cecum and colon of the cat, where they cause severe irritation to the lining of those organs. This results in watery, bloody diarrhea. They can also have weight loss and general debilitation. Whipworms are one of the most pathogenic (harmful) worms found in cats. Has a fecal sample been tested? Whipworms can also cause vomiting. Any chance the blood is dripping from his penis and not the anus? In younger cats a common cause of bloody urine is the presence of crystals in urine (crystalluria). When left undiagnosed and untreated, these crystals can lead to blockage of the urethra in some male cats. Has a urinalysis been done? This is the best I can tell you at this time. It is possible that this particular stool was difficult to pass and you helping to remove it may have caused a small amount of bleeding from the rectal tissue. Cats can become constipated, and if she has been passing less stool than usual, straining to defecate and had a decreased appetite I would recommend seeing a veterinarian. There are some other things that can cause blood in the stool as well including intestinal parasites, colitis or even inflammatory bowel disease. If the blood is persistent you should make an appointment to see your veterinarian as well.
