My cat came home after being missing. Why is his scrotum black?

Get some of the black specks on a clean white paper towel and add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide. Gently rub the black specks with the paper towel. If it looks reddish or rust colored, it could be flea feces indicating that Fosso has fleas. It’s also possible he sat in something and you can try washing it off. It could just be scar tissue but I would strongly recommend to have your vet just take a peak at them . Your vet will be able to palpate them to ensure there isn't any infection in that area and ensure he doesn't need any antibiotics. I cannot say for sure if they are okay with just a picture. The sac can be on the black side, it's not uncommon, but if it is very black and does not feel relatively smooth and elastic like the rest of the skin, then there might be a problem that will require you to take him to the vet.

The picture is difficult to make out, but it almost looks like a piece of body tissue hanging out. Was he recently neutered? If so I would recommend having a follow up appointment with your veterinarian to see if there is any infection or problem at the neuter site. Good luck and I hope he is back to normal soon.

Black scrotum/testicles is not a good sign especially if wounds are present. The black color often means that the skin is dying. I suggest you have Tommy looked at by your vet. Without seeing a photo of what you are describing this is the best information I can give you. If you would like to post again with photos then we can maybe help you better.

He may have a bleeding disorder and the scrotum may be full of blood again. It may also be infected or inflamed. Do not let your cat lick the scrotum as it irritates it and may introduce infection. If the swelling is cool, you can just observe it and over time it should shrink again and the body will have reabsorbed the blood. If the swelling is hot or painful or red, then you will need to take your cat back to the vet for a recheck.

I'm sorry to hear of your concerns with Milo. It does look like he has a scab on his scrotum. It is possible that he had an injury to the area, a reaction to sutures if they were used during his neuter procedure or an infection that is beginning to heal. If he continues to rub at the area, the scab is not going away or if you notice any redness or drainage, I would recommend that you have him seen by your veterinarian.
