Why is my male cat's neuter area swollen again after surgery?

My male cat was neutered about two weeks ago. We have already had to take him back in for swollen testicles. They said it was a blood clot. A few days later, the area is swollen again! What is going on?

He may have a bleeding disorder and the scrotum may be full of blood again. It may also be infected or inflamed. Do not let your cat lick the scrotum as it irritates it and may introduce infection. If the swelling is cool, you can just observe it and over time it should shrink again and the body will have reabsorbed the blood. If the swelling is hot or painful or red, then you will need to take your cat back to the vet for a recheck.

The scrotum is likely swollen. By now, a week after neutering, it should not be swollen anymore. If he excessively licks his scrotum then there may be some irritation or even infection. I suggest you take Jasper to your vet for a recheck of the wounds.

The diarrhea could have been caused from the anesthesia or the stress of just being at the vet's office. If the diarrhea continues, let your vet know so they don't get dehydrated.

The redness of the scrotum is not normal. Make sure you are keeping them confined and not letting the run, jump, or play. I would put them in a large crate with a litter box if you have to. Also, I would strongly encourage you to put a cone collar on the one that is licking the incision. If he continues to lick it, it will not heal. The bacteria from his mouth could cause it to quickly get infected and cause it to be very irritated. If the redness doesn't improve or if you start seeing some discharge, I would have your vet recheck the incision. There is a good chance he may need some antibiotics. I hope this helps!

It is not quite normal, however it is possible that he was licking the incision and aggravated it. If he keeps licking, it will not heal like it should and he may even lick bacteria into the wound. Hello. This is not normal. Traditionally, the incisions over the acrotum are left open when a cat is neutered. Some of the scrotal tissue appears to be bulging out. This is not life threatening, but may delay healing time or possibly become infected. I would suggest that you have your cat rechecked by the veterinarian that performed the surgery. My kitten's neuter incision is red and swollen. Is it normal?

This is not normal, however it does not look infected either. Usually there would be the scrotal skin over this little lump of fat. Wash your hands well with soap, dry them, and then use thumb and first finger to grab the fur either side of it and gently pull it over the lump. If you can manage to do this, there is nothing else to do and it should heal. Only try this once. Jordan is probably licking, so it may be a good idea to get an e-collar for him. If this does not change by Tuesday or looks pussy or very red, then you should take Jordan to the shelter vet for a recheck.

Why is my cat acting wild and destructive after neuter surgery?

I suggest you call the vet. Many vets put a local anesthetic in the testicular cord during surgery. The local may have worn off and then it was painful so he is running away from the pain. Unfortunately they don't understand what is happening. Maybe the vet can dispense some pain medications for you to give him for a couple days.

My neutered cat has something weird on his scrotum. Is it normal?

The picture is difficult to make out, but it almost looks like a piece of body tissue hanging out. Was he recently neutered? If so I would recommend having a follow up appointment with your veterinarian to see if there is any infection or problem at the neuter site. Good luck and I hope he is back to normal soon.

My dog's scrotum is swollen after neuter. Is it infected or painful?

Poor guy...that does look uncomfortable. It may be infected, but I would suspect a discharge at the incision or a fever, lethargy. It is more likely that this is a scrotal hematoma. These typically do resolve in their own, but it can take weeks. Keep his activity level as low as possible to discourage more swelling, continue the anti inflammatory medication, make sure he cannot bite or lick it by using a “cone” if needed. It can provide some relief if he will allow you to do a cold compress on the area. Try wrapping an ice pack with cloth and apply to the area for 15 minutes..three times daily. My cat just got neutered. Is bruising around his scrotum normal?

This amount of bruising can be normal after a neuter. It should resolve after a few days. Monitor for spread, swelling, bleeding or discharge. Restrict activity as much as possible for the next 2 weeks.
