My cat has fluid under skin & hair loss but seems fine. What's wrong?

It sounds like Boots has an abscess from the bite wound. He needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. The abscess may need to be cleaned and flushed and then your vet can prescribe an antibiotic to treat the infection.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sadly there is nothing else you can do at home besides what has been previously mentioned. If you are very worried, call your local SPCA to see if they offer low cost Veterinary Care. Ideally the abscess needs to be lanced (opened) to allow drainage. We can not recommend that you do this at home. If Bubba doesn't see a Vet the abscess will likely open at some point on it's own. Bite wounds and infections are painful. Sometimes cats feel very sick for a few days before the abscess ruptures because they tend to get a fever. I would just wash the area locally and not give him a full bath. You can see if you can borrow clippers from someone. I hope this helps!

I would suspect that this could be from another cat, some other animal or a puncture wound from a sharp object. It sounds as though the lesion is infected with your description. I would recommend soaking the foot in a mixture of betadine and water until you have a light brown solution. Soak the foot with this solution twice daily for 10 minutes at a time. If the foot does not improve, I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at this so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! This could definitely be from a bite, or there could be another reason for the infection. It's best to get this seen by a veterinarian, because there could be something under the skin that will continually cause an infection is it's not removed. This doesn't appear to be an emergency, but it's best to have her seen in the next day or two. For now, you can try the following: 1) Clip the hair around the area and expose all of the sore skin. 2) Wash/spray the area with just warm, clean water (no soap or other antiseptics) for at least 5 minutes at a time. It sounds like Bella may have a cat bite wound on or near her tail. These wounds tend to get infected and develop an abscess, so you will need to monitor this and as soon as you notice a swelling or pain , you will need to take her to a veterinarian for an exam and antibiotic medication. Since the big hole shows internal structures it would be better to see a veterinarian now.

Sounds like a bite wound or a puncture wound from something Skye could have snagged herself on while out and about. The wound needs to be explored, flushed, and possibly drained. Skye will very likely require some antibiotics in order to get better, as well as anti-inflammatory medication to control pain and/or fever if she has one. I would get her into the veterinarian in the morning at the very latest so that treatment can be instituted. The longer you wait, the worse the infection can become. Hope this makes sense.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It appears Precious may have sustained an abscess, probably from a fight with another cat. The abscess ruptured, & Precious has been licking the area to keep it clean. Her sandpaper tongue can actually cause more trauma to the area. You can clean the area with a little warm water & a disinfectant such as Betadine, & you may need to put an elizabethean collar on her to stop the licking. These type wounds do not always need antibiotics, but it would not be a bad idea to let your vet have a look at it just to make sure . Hope she well very soon.
