My cat has a bald spot near its ear. Is it ringworm without a red ring?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Chartreux | Male | neutered | 5 months and 28 days old | 8 lbs

My grey haired cat has a small white bald patch next to one ear and a much smaller one nearby. There is no red ring. I have isolated him as have 3 other cats and two dogs. Could this be ringworm

Yes, it could be. Animals don't get that distinct red ring from ringworm that people get. Ringworm is the number one skin problem in young cats so it is highly likely. I suggest you take him to a vet so you can get a proper diagnosis and then the appropriate treatment. Remember, ringworm is contagious, not only to other animals, but to people as well so be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after handling him.

Hope this helps. Best wishes.
