What's this sudden red spot on my cat's ear? Is it ringworm?

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | spayed | 7 months old | 7 lbs

Is this ringworm? It showed up within a 4 hour period when I last saw my cat. Before then, she was fine. She doesn't seem to be scratching it excessively.

Thank you for including pictures of Bella's ear! It is certainly possible that it is ringworm, but she could also have an infection or an injury causing this redness. For now, I would leave it be and not touch it, and have her seen by a vet on Monday for it. The vet can use a Wood's lamp and do a fungal culture to diagnose if it is ringworm, and can prescribe treatment for it. I would keep Bella isolated from other animals in your home for now just in case she does have ringworm. Ringworm is highly contagious to other animals and humans, and I would wash your hands thoroughly after each time you touch her. The concern is that the Microsporum canis (fungal organism causing ringworm) is spread diffusely throughout a cat's entire hair coat, so you need to make sure to practice good hygiene to try to keep from getting it yourself. Should Bella have ringworm, you will need to disinfect the home as spores can live up to 10 months in the environment. I will put a link below on how to do that. Hi and thank you for reaching out to Pet Coach. Ring worm is usually not found on ear tips in this manner in cats. Based on the pictures you provided of Bella's ear, I do not suspect ring worm.
If it persists or gets worse, Bella's veterinarian can certainly take a look at it in the next couple of days and if needed, run a test to determine if its ringworm.

It is possible that Bella has a wound causing this circular size spot, but it could also be due to ringworm which is a highly contagious fungal infection. I would have her seen by a vet tomorrow to diagnose what is causing this wound so she can be treated. Even if she does have ringworm, that won't prevent her from getting spayed in two weeks, but it would be a good idea to have it diagnosed and treated before then.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Harlow. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. Was she treated when the other cat had ringworm a few months ago? The standard recommendation is to treat all pets in the home. If so, it is less likely that that is the current problem. She appears to have a small scab. This can represent a wound from scratching her ears as well. I will see this in cats with an ear infection. The veterinarian will examine her and determine how best to treat. Yes, it could be. Animals don't get that distinct red ring from ringworm that people get. Ringworm is the number one skin problem in young cats so it is highly likely. I suggest you take him to a vet so you can get a proper diagnosis and then the appropriate treatment. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal infection). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics/antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching. It is very likely that this is ringworm. Azur needs topical antifungal medication (i.e. Miconazole) to treat this if it is confirmed to be a ringworm infection via a blacklight or fungal culture from your vet.

My new cat has a red circular spot on her lip. Is it ringworm?

This is definitely suspicious of ringworm (a fungal infection of the skin). This could also be due to a yeast or bacteria infection, but I think it's much more likely to be ringworm.. It's best to take her back to the shelter for a vet exam soon, because ringworm can spread to different parts of the body and can spread to people. Also, the more involved the infection, the longer it will take to clear. The vet will be able to definitively diagnose it and give the best treatment. What's this crusty, bald, black spot on my kitten's ear?

A lesion like that could be a bacterial infection or ringworm (which humans can get). Your best option is to have Mocha examined and tested for ringworm. Make sure to protect the area from rubbing and scratching and she should wear an elizabethan collar at all times.
