Thank you for submitting your question regarding your cats. Yes, it definitely could be ringworm. I recommend that they see their veterinarian. A procedure known as a fungal culture is common performed to test for ringworm. I hope this information helps!

i wouldn't trust the pictures regarding ringworm, as it can come in many different forms in cats, it doesn't always have a typical look. if it seems to be persistent after morethan 2 weeks, i would advise having it checked by your vet, including a ringworm test.

Hi, I would not say this looks like a typical ringworm lesion. The areas are normally hairless round areas but can also become more inflamed and crusty depending on the dermatophyte causing the problem. The active infection can only be confirmed through culture so I would recommend to seek vet attention to put your mind at rest. Hello. This does not look like a typical lesion associated with ringworm. It looks more like a focal area of irritation/inflammation from an insect bite/sting, allergies or just some other cause. Yes, it could be. Animals don't get that distinct red ring from ringworm that people get. Ringworm is the number one skin problem in young cats so it is highly likely. This does not look like a natural shedding and it does look suspicious for ringworm but a cut or abrasion can sometimes be this same circular shape. As you probably know, ringworm is contagious to humans as well. Ringworm can generally be diagnosed by your veterinarian and I recommend to get your kitty checked out so that you know what you were dealing with. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal infection). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics/antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching. My cat has red scabby spots and bald areas. Is it ringworm or mites?

It is hard to say for sure, but based on your description these red scabby areas could be either a ringworm infection (itchy) or mites (not itchy). Your local veterinarian can do a simple skin scrape test + fungal culture to determine the underlying cause for sure, so that the appropriate treatment is recommended to resolve these reddish bald areas on Snappy's skin. This is a test that your veterinarian can run easily. While the location in the ventral abdomen is not typical of ringworm in cats, this is certainly possible. One thing to point out is that usually ringworm does not cause itchiness in cats while hot spots or dermal infections tend to do. I recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Your veterinarian can test to see if ringworm is possible. In the meantime, try to avoid having direct contact with this lesion in case it is ringworm as that can be transmitted to humans. Good luck and have a good night!
