My cat ate Samoa cookies but acts normal. Vet for chocolate?

If it has been less than an hour since your pet ate it, you can induce vomiting by giving an oral dose of hydrogen peroxide, about 1 cc per pound. One tablespoon is about 5 cc. A turkey baster will work if you don't have a syringe. Longer than an hour and it will have already moved into the intestines. That amount of chocolate in the cookies is probably not enough to do much harm but watch your dog for signs of staggering, imbalance, and seizures. If any of these occur, get your dog in to see your vet immediately.

Hi there! A few crumbs of milk chocolate probably will not harm your cat. If she got a decent bit, she might have some diarrhea, but I highly doubt this will happen if it was only chocolate residue. Feel free to call your vet if you have concerns, but I think your kitty will be just fine! :)

Great question! Dark chocolate is unfortunately the most toxic type of chocolate, meaning it takes the smallest amount of it to cause toxic symptoms. Without knowing exactly how much of the cake was made up of dark chocolate, it can't say if Wolf will be ok or not. Because chocolate toxicity can cause death if enough is ingested, my recommendation is to take him into a vet now. The vet can induce vomiting with a shot, and can do decontamination procedures to prevent any toxicity from occurring. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The amount of chocolate in an Oreo should not be a toxic amount. Me may have some vomiting or diarrhea from GI upset. Try to keep him away from people food in the future but I suspect he'll be fine this time. If you notice any abnormal shaking or tremors he should go to the vet to be safe.

Your kitty should be just fine! You are a great pet parent to be worried, but there is not that much chocolate in that type of cocoa. He could have loose stool from the sugar and milk, but that's it. If they have a lot of actual cocoa or chocolate, the symptoms come on pretty quickly... like minutes to an hour. Your kitty should be ok.

I see he's a good sized dog at 55lbs, so chances are eating this cookie is not going to cause him any problems. At most, you may see some GI upset, but I wouldn't be surprised if you don't see anything at all. It can take up to 24 hours for signs of chocolate toxicity to occur, so monitor him over this time period. Do not let him get ahold of any more cookies! I hope this helps!

Rarely will cats eat enough chocolate to become toxic. Milk chocolate with the Rice Krispies should be ok. It’s the dark baking chocolate that is the most toxic and cats are quite fussy, unlike dogs, and they won’t eat as much. Keep an eye on him. Signs of toxicity starts with agitation. If he should start acting abnormally excited then you may want to have him checked at your emergency clinic. Do not try to have him vomit as that may cause more medical issues than the chocolate.
