My cat ate a Plan B pill. Is it dangerous? What should I do right now?

Hello. I am sorry that your question was not addressed earlier, so I hope you have already taken your cats to the vet for decontamination & supportive care. There is really not very much information about this particular medication being consumed by a cat. It is basically progesterone, & we do know that higher doses can cause sedation, ataxia, anisocoria ( unequal pupils ) & disorientation. I found one documented source of a cat that consumed an unknown amount of progesterone, & all of the symptoms resolved over several hours with supportive care ( not identified, but probably included fluids & possible gastric decontamination with activated charcoal ). So if any of your cats are showing any of these signs, please have the cat examined by your veterinarian as soon as possible. If it has been several hours & everyone is looking & acting well, then you may still find the pill somewhere. But any concerns or doubts, please head out to your veterinarian. I would recommend that you call ASPCA's poison control number. That number is 888-426-4435. There is a $65 charge, but they will be able to best advise you. Please have the label available so you can let them know the amount of medication listed, how much was in the package, and what any other potentially concerning ingredients were.

When antibiotics are ingested in toxic amounts, it can result in mild to severe signs ranging from gastrointestinal signs (e.g., drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, inappetance, discolored teeth), metabolic signs (e.g., skin lesions, liver failure, kidney failure, etc.) to central nervous system signs (e.g., tremors, seizures, death). I would advise contacting your local emergency vet hospital or contact Poison Control https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control Sorry this happened with your pet. I would call the Pet Poison hotline immediately. +1-855-764-7661 They have 24/7 veterinarians who specialize in toxicities. They also have access to databases of cases that match Sylvester’s. They can tell you whether you need to rush to the emergency vet or to not worry at all. There is a $59 fee but that is much cheaper than an emergency vet visit! It really depends on which contraceptive he ingested and your pets weight. Typically most of the contraceptives are not toxic with just 1 pill; however I recommend you call ASPCA Pet poison control hotline @ (888) 426-4435. You may see a bout of diarrhea but this is typically the extent o the adverse effects seen. If anything changes within the next 24 hrs your pet should be seen by a veterinarian.
