My puppy ate one birth control pill. Is it toxic or harmful?

Is 1 contraceptive pill birth control pill is toxic for male puppy or male dog can ingestion of 1 birth control pill affect the organs of them?

It really depends on which contraceptive he ingested and your pets weight. Typically most of the contraceptives are not toxic with just 1 pill; however I recommend you call ASPCA Pet poison control hotline @ (888) 426-4435. You may see a bout of diarrhea but this is typically the extent o the adverse effects seen.

If anything changes within the next 24 hrs your pet should be seen by a veterinarian.

I can certainly understand being concerned! The good news is that birth control pills are not toxic to dogs, and eating one will likely not cause Bruzer (love his name!) any problems. If he had eaten a couple of them, you might see some GI upset, but not likely with one. Having said all this, however, I would just monitor him tonight for any strange symptoms and contact your vet if you see any. Otherwise, Bruzer should be just fine :-)

If Fia is acting normal and not having any symptoms, she is likely fine and did not eat the pill. However, if you are concerned about the pill's potential hazards from ingestion, you can contact The Pet Poison Helpline for assistance here: https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/ (There is a fee for this service.)

Signs to watch out for of eating something toxic can include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, changes in behavior, changes in eating or drinking habits, etc. If you suspect she did eat the pill, or is showing any of these symptoms, seeking veterinary care in person ASAP is best.

He should be fine. You may see some vomiting, diarrhea and/or lethargy. He would need to ingest 8 of the pills for there to be a risk of toxicity. If necessary, withhold food for 24 hours, allowing small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until any symptoms of GI upset resolve. Transition slowly to his regular diet afterwards. If symptoms persist or worsen, have him examined by your veterinarian.

My cat might have eaten an emergency contraceptive pill. Is it toxic?

Hello. I am sorry that your question was not addressed earlier, so I hope you have already taken your cats to the vet for decontamination & supportive care. There is really not very much information about this particular medication being consumed by a cat. It is basically progesterone, & we do know that higher doses can cause sedation, ataxia, anisocoria ( unequal pupils ) & disorientation. I found one documented source of a cat that consumed an unknown amount of progesterone, & all of the symptoms resolved over several hours with supportive care ( not identified, but probably included fluids & possible gastric decontamination with activated charcoal ). So if any of your cats are showing any of these signs, please have the cat examined by your veterinarian as soon as possible. If it has been several hours & everyone is looking & acting well, then you may still find the pill somewhere. But any concerns or doubts, please head out to your veterinarian. My 19lb dog ate a human prenatal vitamin with DHA. Is she okay?

Since she only ate 1 pill, I would not be worried about toxicity. The doses in the vitamins for each of the components should not be harmful. You may see some GI signs such as poor appetite, vomiting or diarrhea, but should resolve. If symptoms continue, I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian.

My dog swallowed a pill. Was it warfarin or Synulox? Is he in danger?

While I would certainly recommend calling aspca poison control, I do not believe that 5mg of warfarin exceeds the threshold for a toxic dose based on a 6 kilogram body weight. According to the academy of vet pharmacists, a 5 mg per kg dose is the threshold meaning that about 30 mg is needed to show clinical signs in most cases. However every patient is different and if your dog has any other issues or takes other meds this could be affected. Hope this helps.
