Why is my cat vomiting digested food after eating? Can olive oil help?

I don't recommend to do this. Olive could cause significant GI upset. Instead use a product like Laxatone. You may also switch your food to a hair ball formula. I recommend the formula by Royal Canin. daily brushing will also help. If Oliver continues to have problems, have him examined by the veterinarian.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Olive oil can be used to help normalize bowel movements but too much can lead to diarrhea. I would recommend using 1 tablespoon of olive oil on the food with each meal. I would not recommend this for recurrent bouts of constipation as there may be an underlying condition that needs medical attention. Olive oil is safe for cats and if you notice that Tiger develops diarrhea, discontinue the olive oil. I hope this helps! I would recommend taking Oliver back to the vet for re-evaluation. The vet may decide that retesting for diabetes and hyperthyroidism is a good idea - sometimes in the early stages of disease the tests would be very close to the normal range. If those tests are normal, then IBD should be considered. The most digestible diet without a prescription would be canned cat food, like Fancy Feast. The only way to help him gain weight is to get him to eat more food.

Oily/fatty foods can cause stimulation of the pancreas and increased pain and vomiting and would not be recommended in Bellas case. Given the history of vomiting I would not be overly concerned about the delay in stool production but she should pass feces within 72hours of regaining her appetite and food intake.

It sounds as Oliver is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Vomiting repeatedly in a cat can be a sign of gastritis (he ate something that upset his stomach), a blockage in the GI tract, a toxin, or other diseases of the body including kidneys/liver/diabetes, etc. If Oliver is playing, acting normally and is eating and drinking, I would recommend just feeding him boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breasts and boiled rice in small frequent meals for a few days. If he is eating/pooping normally and the vomiting resolves, it was likely a mild gastritis. If Oliver is weak/tired, not eating, or the vomiting gets worse at all, he needs to go to a vet right away for x-rays to make sure he doesn't have a blockage or a severe gastritis/pancreatitis. If there is a blockage he will die without surgery, so if the vomiting continues get him to a vet right away. Best of luck with Oliver.

Liquid paraffin (5mls every 12 hours) or specific products like katalax can be used to lubricate gastrointestinal system and avoid obstructions.
