My cat ate a cloth. What signs mean she needs an emergency vet?

It can take up to 72 hours for signs of an obstruction to occur, and if she does get a linear foreign body from eating this ribbon, she will need surgery to remove it. Waiting until morning to see the vet will be too late to induce vomiting in Shadow, there is only a window of two hours in order to do this. I would take her into an ER vet or find a vet on call now to see her to induce vomiting with a shot.

You should be looking for vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and anorexia. Those are signs of a foreign body ingestion causing an obstruction. You can also take PJ into a vet now to get x-rays to look for them. Best of luck.

If Atlas seems OK, I would keep an eye on him while you continue to search for the item. Signs to look out for of a possible obstruction include vomiting, diarrhea, attempting to vomit without being able to, loss of appetite, lethargy or pain in the abdomen. A cat that isn't feeling well may also try to hide or become less social. If you do see these signs, or suspect that the item was ingested, it is best to bring Atlas into your vet for care.

Hello. Unfortunately, this is going to be a waiting game to see if he still has some of the washcloth in his stomach & he may vomit it up or it will pass through his digestive tract. I do not think you need to worry about the soap. If it has not made him sick by now, it probably was not enough to cause a problem. But the cloth could, especially if it passes into his intestines & is unable to move. This will cause a blockage. Feed him as normal & hopefully the food will help things to pass. If at any time Kage loses his appetite, becomes lethargic, vomits multiple times or just seems uncomfortable in general, you will need to see your vet for additional diagnostics & treatments. This is small enough that it has a good chance of passing with any major concerns. Keep an eye on Cheeky for any signs of trouble which includes: excessive vomiting, little to no appetite, little to no stool +/- lethargy. I would then feed her some canned food to help bind the wrapper and hopefully help it pass along. Monitor the stools daily until it is found. If you happen to see any symptoms develop, then a trip to your vet is warranted. I do hope that Cheeky does well and has no issues with this wrapper ingestion. I would have Charlie seen by a vet right away for this. A piece of shirt this long can easily cause a linear foreign body, and if it does create an obstruction, he would need surgery to remove it. It's best to avoid that completely, and the vet can determine if it's safe to give him a shot to induce vomiting to get it out of his stomach. Good luck!

Poor guy. I can understand how worrisome this can be, especially when you are dealing with a foreign body ingestion, not knowing if it will pass or not. Hopefully the cloth was small and will pass through easily, which can take several days to a week in some cases. If he has vomited more than 3 times, then I would highly recommend taking him in to your vet for a proper exam and radiographs to check where the cloth is and see if it is already causing a blockage. Blockages will cause excessive vomiting (even water), lethargy and scant (few) feces. I do hope that he doesn't have a complete blockage, but he needs to be seen by your vet to determine if that is the case or not. At the very least the vet can prescribe antinausea medication to help control his vomiting and subsequently prevent him from becoming dehydrated as well. Best of luck to you and your pet Lucky.
