My cat ate a 5-inch shirt piece with a seam. Vet now or wait?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 8 lbs

my cat ate a piece of a shirt ( about five inches long), some of which had a small seam attached. Do I take him to the vet right away, or should I wait to see if he gets sick?

I would have Charlie seen by a vet right away for this. A piece of shirt this long can easily cause a linear foreign body, and if it does create an obstruction, he would need surgery to remove it. It's best to avoid that completely, and the vet can determine if it's safe to give him a shot to induce vomiting to get it out of his stomach. Good luck!
