My calf ate box shrub leaves. Lethargic, teeth grinding. What to do?

Hello. Depending on how long the exposure was, all we can do is treat the symptoms until healing occurs. Was a good work-up done on Luna prior to her dental procedure? If not, she needs a complete blood count, serum chemistry, urinalysis & she needs to be checked for retroviruses. If nothing significant is found, an abdominal ultrasound may indicate if there is some problem in her digestive tract. Subcutaneous fluids, appetite stimulants, anti-nausea medications, possibly antibiotics are all possible treatments many of which can be managed at home. A temporary feeding tube can also be placed until she begins eating again. You may never definitively know if this was glyphosate that made Luna sick, but with good care, she may recover just fine. If you suspect your lamb ate a toxic plant and is now showing symptoms it is best to seek veterinary care immediately. If you think you know what the lamb ate it is best to let your veterinarian know so that the correct treatment can begin. There is not much you can do at home on your own without the supervision of a veterinarian.

It should not case any serious intoxication but it definitely can produce gastric signs. So, you need to keep an eye on Samatha for the next few hours, she may vomit or/and have diarrhoea and be off colour. The symptoms will be hopefully only mild but if she starts looking unwell, you should get in touch with your local vets today.

One leaf can cause lower level toxicities like vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Multiple leaves can cause fatal heart arrhythmias. To be on the safe side, I would recommend inducing vomiting by a vet even with her history of digestive upset since this toxin will also cause digestive issues. An anti-nausea shot can be given after Goldie vomits to try to prevent any worsening of the vomiting at home. I would be mildly concerned about the pesticide ingestion, but significantly more concerned that she could have ingested enough jean material that she could have an intestinal or stomach obstruction that could require immediate attention. As she has been inappetent, nauseated and dry heaving, I would recommend she be evaluated as soon as possible; if she has an intestinal obstruction, it may require immediate surgery to prevent significant complications (and could even be fatal if untreated). I would have her seen by a veterinarian, have any necessary testing done (xrays, ultrasound) and a treatment plan made. Good luck!

If you know for sure that she got into a plant, you can contact the ASPCA poison control (https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control) which will help your veterinarian treat her. If you're not sure that she got into a plant, I would take her to your nearest emergency vet today. Puppies can get very sick from a number of different diseases and will get sicker faster than adult dogs. Puppies can quickly have problems getting dehydrated, having low blood sugar and having problems regulating their temperature when they get sick.
