My German Shepherd ate jeans with pesticides, now vomiting and lethargic.

Causes of vomiting are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, foreign body, food allergy/intolerance, new food/treat.human food, intestinal disease (inflammatory bowel disease) or pancreatic disease. I am in agreement with you about your dog. German Shepherds, at least in the US have a lot of intestinal and pancreatic disease, specifically Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). Sometimes they have both conditions. Symptoms of IBD are weight loss with or with out vomiting or diarrhea. Signs of EPI are weight loss and diarrhea. I recommend deworming him 3 weeks apart with Drontal plus to cover parasites: https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=1459 Then I would start him on a prescription hydrolyzed diet, you will need a prescription from a Vet. I like Royal Canin Ultimino or HP or Purina HA: https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/royal-canin-veterinary-diet-hydrolyzed-protein-adult-dry-dog-food If there is no improvement in weight or vomiting in 2 months then consider a trial of pancreazyme (supplement for EPI), again you will need a Vet to prescribe it for you: https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=11245 I know there isn't a Vet close by but I highly encourage you to find one and have them examine your dog. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Joie! From your pictures Joie seems to be pretty sick. Causes for vomiting and lethargy in a young lab: foreign body ingestion where she ate something that is stuck in her stomach or intestines, a virus like Parvo virus especially if she is unvaccinated, intestinal parasites, toxins, etc. It is probably best to have her seen as an emergency today. You can try to fast her: no food (and no grass) for 12 hours. Hold on water for 4 hours and if no vomiting offer ice cubes. If she continues to vomit while being fasted she should see a Vet today. If the vomiting subsides then starting tomorrow do "sip and nibble" of water and a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice as small frequent meals. Feed 3 cups total per day. If she restarts vomiting with food then she should see your Vet. Good luck!!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. A single episode of vomiting is usually not of major concern. Vomiting can be caused by a number of things, such as dietary indiscretion (eating something he shouldn't have), infectious causes, inflammation of the GI tract, toxin ingestion, liver or kidney disease, etc. If he only vomited the one time and goes back to acting normally, I would not be concerned. However, if Boone continues to vomit multiple times, has a decreased appetite, or is not acting himself, I recommend having him seen by your veterinarian. Your vet can perform a physical exam and may recommend bloodwork and/or abdominal x-rays to determine a cause for the vomiting. In the mean time, you can try offering Boone a bland diet such as boiled chicken or hamburger and rice, in a ratio of 2 parts rice to 1 part meat, to see if this helps settle his stomach. German Shepherd Dogs are prone to a variety of stomach and gut problems including exocrine pancreatitis, IBD, food allergies, plus , like every dog, can get gastro-intestinal infections. You can take her off food for about 12 hrs then feed her bland food such as boiled rice and boneless boiled chicken in small portions and divided over several small feeds /day. If she does not start to eat or cannot keep her food in , then you will need to take her to your vet for an exam and appropriate medications.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like we may have two separate problems- a skin problem and a GI problem. The skin itching could be related to food but is more likely related to environmental allergies (which can develope at any age). Another possibility is that it’s actually pain- she is the right age for arthritis and other problems. This may be especially true if it’s over a joint. A foreign body like a thorn stuck in the skin is also possible. For the vomiting, there are many many possibilities. Acid reflux is more common with age. A trial of small frequent meals and Pepcid AC (famotidine) can help. Other possibilities include long-term foreign material (cloth or object swallowed long ago), organ disease (kidney disease, pancreatitis) cancer, and more. Abdominal xrays, full blood work, abdominal ultrasound, and sometimes even an upper GI scope or exploratory surgery may be needed to figure it out. It could be she has an infection causing the diarrhea, but it could also be something else like worms. Given that she has had it for a couple of days and is now lethargic, it's time to see a vet. The issue with garlic cheese in a wrapper is twofold; garlic can be toxic to dogs, and the wrapper can cause an intestinal obstruction. I would keep a close eye on Gustav (and his stool! for the next couple of days for any vomiting, diarrhea, inappetence, lethargy, or any other signs that he is feeling ill. If these are seen, I would recommend he be evaluated by his regular veterinarian right away. If there was a large amount of garlic in the cheese, I would also recommend touching base with animal poison control to see if he needs any treatment for a possible toxicity. Good luck!
