How cold can a kiwi bird get before it's too cold to survive?

The ideal temperature for budgies is about 60-70 F (15.5-21 C) and they can handle as low as 40 degrees (4 C) if needed for a short time, however if it is going to be consistently cool in the aviary for long periods of time, I would advise adding in heat lamps or other lighting to warming up the space and keep your birds comfortable. Adding in places they can nest and roost comfortably with lots of cover (and to hold in warmth) is also a good idea.

A full spectrum bulb with heat emitters, ceramic or infrared bulbs can be used. There is no direct answer to your question. No one knows the exact freezing temperature of a bird. If I had to guess I would think they could not withstand anything under about 32F for prolong periods of time. There is a common misconception that canaries are delicate, tropical birds that cannot take a chill. Actually, they are quite hardy and if acclimated, can survive freezing temperatures. As long as they are not in a draft, they can puff up at night and maintain their body temperature. The main limitation is that their drinking water not freeze. The birds themselves will survive freezing temperatures. All that being said, if the canary was not acclimated to colder temperatures or if he was in a draft then he may have caught an upper respiratory infection that caused the death and not the actual cold temperature itself.

The best way to keep the parrot warm would be to make sure the room it lives in is always heated. You could get a thermostat for the room so that it always stay at a constant temperature. Covering the cage with a heavy blanket also helps to insulate it at night.

During the first three weeks of life, kittens are unable to regulate their body temperature, so temperatures less than 27C can lead to hypothermia if their mother does not keep them warm. Usually by seven weeks of age, they can control their body temperature as well as an adult. Given your kittens are just over three weeks, this still may be a little bit cold for them. Separate from the parakeets, remove perches and provide a soft towel on the bottom of the cage. Providing supplemental heat support int he 80-85 F range can give some comfort. Good luck.
