My budgies grew up indoors. Is 3-16C too cold for outdoor aviary?

In Autumn, my budgies bred. It was too cold so we brought the parents and the eggs inside. Out of the ones that hatched, 6 survived. The baby budgies would now be around 4 and a half months old. I've been told that I should put the budgies in the outdoor aviary, I have been hesitant because the minimum and maximum weather (Celsius) has been 3 - 16 degrees. Is this too cold for the budgies? They have grown up in a non-heated room. Will they freeze to death? I can't find anything about it online.

The ideal temperature for budgies is about 60-70 F (15.5-21 C) and they can handle as low as 40 degrees (4 C) if needed for a short time, however if it is going to be consistently cool in the aviary for long periods of time, I would advise adding in heat lamps or other lighting to warming up the space and keep your birds comfortable. Adding in places they can nest and roost comfortably with lots of cover (and to hold in warmth) is also a good idea.

You may put your budgies anywhere where there is the least amount of temperature fluctuation as these birds can be sensitive to sudden temperature changes. I would also avoid particularly sunny areas or areas where doors open or where windows are as drafts and intense sunlight can cause health problems. How cold can a kiwi bird get before it's too cold to survive?

Thanks for reaching out. In the Brown Kiwi Husbandry Manual, recommendations are to keep the temperature range between 14-20 C, but also states not to allow temperature to get below freezing. Good luck.

Why is my budgie shaking but not cold? What could be wrong with her?

Thanks for reaching out about Peach. Shaking can be from many reasons. Being too cold is one, most parrots are comfortable in 80-85 degree weather. They shiver to create heat. Covering the cage will not generate any additional heat, so a heat lamp should be provided. Shaking can also result from being sick. It depends how large your cage is. The standard minimum cage size recommended by bird professionals is 12- by 18- by 18-inches for a single bird. This cage size is fine if your budgie is outside of the cage most of the time, but if you have a cage-confined budgie, it's going to be much too small to keep your bird happy and healthy.

Thanks for reaching out about Blue. The average incubation length for budgies is 14-16 days, once she starts sitting on the eggs. A thermostat regulated heat lamp can be used to regulate the temperature. If she is going into and out of the nest box, and has laid egg in the box, she is probably comfortable with the size, as long as it is large enough to rear the young. Regarding nutrition, a wide variety of vegetables and a plant protein source (legumes) is important to replace nutrients lost in laying eggs. Good luck

My budgie's feet feel warm on my finger. Is this normal for them?

A birds body temperature is higher than human body temperature, about 41C compared to our 37C. This increase translates to warmer skin temperature as well. The warm feet is normal and no cause for concern as long as there is no lethargy, decreased appetite, loose droppings, etc.
