I found a bird with a broken wing in my backyard. What should I do?

Unfortunately, with a complicated fracture such as that, and if the owl is acting woozy, it is likely in shock and unlikely to survive without veterinary care. If you really want to help save this owl, it's best to find someone to transport it to the nearest veterinarian. If you can do so safely and gently, you may be able to place a gentle tape to stabilize the wing against the body. Check local and state wildlife laws first to make sure you are allowed to keep Angel. Next, contact the local veterinary clinic and ask for the contact information of nearby wildlife rehabilitator. If you are legally prohibited from keeping wildlife, a rehabber will give Angel the best chance at treatment and recovery. If you are allowed to keep Angel, a rehabber should be able to direct you to a veterinarian who may be able to help out. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do other than try to keep the bird calm and quiet. I would avoid handling it as birds can pass illnesses to people and other pets. Trying to find a wildlife rehab that can take it ASAP is best!

It is possible that Tweety has a broken wing, however, in a 12 day old bird it could also be a "conformational abnormality", meaning Tweety may have been born with one wing that did not develop properly. If it had a broken neck he would be dead already, he is probably suffering from something else that may reassemble a broken neck, it could be an infection or a birth defect, he needs to be checked by an avian vet specialist ASAP in order to find out if he can be helped.

Breaks are usually fixable in birds, either by applying a splint or surgically, it depends how bad it is basically. this will need to be assess and done by an avian vet specialist, if the leg and not the wing is broken then her chances are generally better.

It would be hard to tell if it is OK or not without an exam in person. It could be the bird is just stressed out from the day's activity, however, with wild animals it is best to try and find a vet that will see them, or a local wildlife rehab in your area that will take the bird in, examine it, treat it, and re-release it in the wild.
