My bird has a swollen, watery eye and a growth. What's the treatment?

Unfortunately, we cannot prescribe medications over the internet without an in-person exam. If the eye is very swollen and has something stuck in it, it is best to seek veterinary care in person. They can examine the eye and prescribe any medications or treatments as needed. Until you can get to the vet, moving Aci to a hospital cage away from other birds to prevent getting picked on may help, as well as using a clean washcloth to remove any debris gently until the eye can be treated.

Reio is very sick, swollen eyes are usually caused either by an upper respiratory infection or vitamin A deficiency. you must take him to an avian vet urgently if you want to help him, there is nothing you can do to help from home without the aid of a specialist veterinarian.

Thanks for reaching out about your rosella and including photos. Birds on the bottom of the cage are often ill/sick. Providing heat support int he 80-85 F range might give some comfort but is not a treatment. A veterinary visit is highly recommended, ASAP. Offer the previous food or syringe offer food and water. Rosie is probably very ill, but unfortunately i couldn't tell you what is wrong based on these very general symptoms, which is often the case with birds you will need to take her to an avian vet where a blood test and faecal exam will be done to determine what is the cause of the disease before it can be treated. i would not recommend taking her to a vet that is not an avian specialist, they are not likely to be able to help and will probably end up referring you anyway, try to look on the internet where is the closest avian vet specialist and give them a call, they will tell you to bring her as soon as you can.

I think it's best to return to your avian veterinarian or even seek out an ophthalmologist (eye) specialist to see if the eyes can be saved or safely removed. They may be able to treat the remaining eye so that it can be saved, or suggest additional treatment to try and get Paco feeling better.

Ear infections are not common in birds so what you are describing is a little concerning. I would recommend taking Tory in to be examined by a veterinarian so an accurate diagnosis can be made. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). Giving the upper eyelid lesion as well a skin infection is more likely. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Your vet may want to perform a skin scrape to identify underlying cause more specifically. Disinfection can possibly be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths.
