My bird is on cage bottom, looks swollen. Is he sick? What to do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

My bird is sitting on bottom of cage and looks swollen. What do I do? I recently am trialing pellets instead of seed. Does this mean he doesn't like it??? Some of his old seed is still on bottom of cage. Maybe he is trying to eat that instead.

Thanks for reaching out about your rosella and including photos. Birds on the bottom of the cage are often ill/sick. Providing heat support int he 80-85 F range might give some comfort but is not a treatment. A veterinary visit is highly recommended, ASAP. Offer the previous food or syringe offer food and water.
Good luck.
