My bird is disoriented and one eye responds slowly. Is it going blind?

Hello. So sorry to hear that your parrot is having this issue. I strongly suggest you get her to an avian veterinarian for an examination. It sounds like she is having some issues seeing - she may be going blind. You need to have her vision checked with a vet this is competent with working on birds. That does sound like Sunshine may be ill, however these are all very vague symptoms of illness rather than pointing to one thing. It is a good idea to bring Sunshine into your vet for an exam if these symptoms continue to rule out issues such as respiratory illnesses or underlying disease. In the meantime,keeping her in a warm hospital cage away from dirt and dust and with easy access to food and water may help keep her comfortable.

If the eye is bad enough that your budgie is keeping it closed, or if it looks cloudy or glazed over, it is best to seek veterinary care. While a cataract is possible in an older bird, injury or infection to the eye can also cause cloudiness, closing of the eye, or even debris to ooze from it, and should be treated so the eye is not lost or the infection doesn't spread. Keeping your budgie comfortable, eating, drinking and resting until you can get to your vet is best.
