My African Grey is quiet, sick, sleepy, and not eating. What to do?

Providing heat support in the 80-85 F range can give some aid. Remove perches and give a soft towel on which to rest. Try offering water and a liquid food through a syringe for calories and hydrate. Being ill can have multiple causes such as infections (bacterial, fungal), metabolic disorders (liver, kidney), heart problems, nutritional deficiencies and more. Without knowing if Jack is showing other symptoms of illness, it is hard to tell what is going on. Listless behavior, low energy, sleeping all the time and not eating or drinking as much are all very vague symptoms of illness and should be checked out by a vet to find the underlying causes. Infections, illness, injuries, parasites, nutritional issues, etc can all be possible causes. Keeping him warm and quiet, as well as providing easy access to food and water may help. If he is in a very loud or high-stress area, moving him somewhere quieter may also help him to relax and feel better, however if he continues to act unwell or doesn't perk back up, a vet exam is best.

A veterinary vista should be scheduled for today. Providing an environment in 80-85 degrees might provide some support but it not a cure. Unfortunately, not eating and being listless are very vague symptoms of illness. Anything from being overheated, to having internal parasites, GI upset, underlying illness, etc can be a potential cause. If they have not eaten anything in several days, it is best to seek veterinary care immediately as by the time birds show symptoms of illness they are usually pretty sick. Until you can get to the vet, separating them into warm hospital cages that are kept in a quiet, dark area with easy access to food and water may help, however seeking veterinary care is needed.

Rosie is probably very ill, but unfortunately i couldn't tell you what is wrong based on these very general symptoms, which is often the case with birds you will need to take her to an avian vet where a blood test and faecal exam will be done to determine what is the cause of the disease before it can be treated. i would not recommend taking her to a vet that is not an avian specialist, they are not likely to be able to help and will probably end up referring you anyway, try to look on the internet where is the closest avian vet specialist and give them a call, they will tell you to bring her as soon as you can.

Hi and thank you for your question, Vomiting/regurgitation in a parrot is potentially serious. There are many potential causes - lead/zinc poisoning, infections (bacterial, viral, fungal) etc. etc. You really have to try and find an avian vet for this. A good place to start (for the vet) would be to get Xray images and see if Nano has ingested any foreign objects and/or has a very dilated stomach. Regards
