Why is my horse's poop liquid, green, and watery? Is it diarrhea?

A change in fecal consistency is not unusual when the seasons change. Weather can affect water & sugar content in all forages. As long as they are eating & drinking & acting normal, I would not be overly concerned. If you have not dewormed, this is a good time to do so using Equimax Gold, or Quest. Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm not an equine or large animal veterinarian but many many things could be wrong with your horse. Dental issues come to mind but many other things need to be evaluated by your large animal veterinarian. I would advise calling your veterinarian and let them handle this case. This could be something easily remedied or more complicated. A good physical exam, history, and possible tests would provide light on what is going on. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Murphy! Murphy is having diarrhea. It is common to have urgency and straining with diarrhea. It can make them uncomfortable and that is why they whine. Causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, he ate something gross that is upsetting his belly, new food/treat/table food, food allergy/intolerance, toxin ingestion. Since Murphy is only 13 weeks old, I would take him to your Vet when they open. Bring a stool sample with you so they can test it for parasites. They may want to test him for Parvo virus if he is not vaccinated. Most likely he will be sent home with medications and a bland diet. I hope this helps and I wish Murphy a speedy recovery!

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Make sure Penelope's diet is proper. stop all leafy greens & fresh vegetables. She should have no more than 1/4 cup of fresh rabbit pellets, & a body size pile of timothy hay. Tomorrow, take a sample of her stool for analysis to your vet. They will see if she has any intestinal parasites including coccidia. Based on this, your vet may recommend putting her on a diet of Critical care to increase fiber, or if she needs antibiotics. If it does not get better and becomes diarrhea entirely, then things like colitis for example would have to be considered. For this reason, I recommend that you monitor him for now.
