My 11-week-old bunny has diarrhea. Is it serious? What to do?

Hello. There are just too many questions that need to be answered in order to offer any advice. The best thing is to have your bunny examined by a veterinarian who can check Laddu for intestinal parasites, discuss the diet you are feeding her & possibly start her on a Critical Care diet & possibly antibiotics. Thank you for using PetCoach. She is adorable. The first thing to do is to make sure that Gorda's diet is approriate. Most pet rabbit do not need pelleted food or need very, very little. Hay and vegetables should make up the majority of her diet. Moist stool can be the result of intestinal problems (dietary, parasites, bacterial), metabolic (liver, kidney), stress, inappropriate nutrition, reproductive disease (uterine infection, neoplasia), spondylosis, and other problems. Reduce diet to hay only, no vegetables for now, no pellets. A veterinary visit is recommended to assist with a diagnostic and treatment plan. Good luck.

Diarrhea is definitely bad for rabbits. There can be multiple causes, ranging from different bacterial infections, stress, diet, parasites, and more. If your rabbit is having diarrhea they should be seen by a veterinarian for an exam as untreated it can become very dangerous as they can become dehydrated and can end up with bacteria in the bloodstream if the condiiton progresses.

Anything is possible especially if this is a new diet that has been introduced. Diarrhea in rabbits can be very serious so I suggest you have Roshini to the vet for an exam. If you can, I recommend you use a diet like Oxbow. Remember, a rabbit's diet should be mostly hay and not pellets. Diarrhea can be observed with gastrointestinal parasites for example. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check on the possible cause of the diarrhea so that it can be treated and why his eyes are not apparent. Good luck!

For now, stop feeding anything but hay or timothy hay pellets. Provide water or unflavored PediaLyte to prevent dehydration. Keep his bottom clean and dry. Keep his cage clean and decrease or eliminate any negative stimuli. Severe diarrhea can be deadly in rabbits, so it is important to have Gabi examined by your veterinarian as soon as possible. A rabbit's diet should be at least 80% timothy hay or similar grasses. They require a high fiber diet to maintain gut health. Limit vegetables ( 2 cups per 6lbs daily) and pellets ( 1/8 cup per 6lbs daily) to prevent obesity. Fruit should be given only occasionally if at all.
